11 Popular Minecraft Logos

In this article, we’ll go over some popular brand identities and suggest techniques you can use.

Like other elements, the logos in the game are made of colored blocks that look like pixels. Let’s take a look at how popular logos are being transformed in the digital world.

Superman

The blue suit of the hero gives the player superpowers, making him practically immune to the fight against evil. One of the most recognizable details is the bright yellow shield-shaped logo with a large red “S” in the center. While the image has little detail, it’s easy to scale. The only problem is to design the smooth lines of the letter “S” with square blocks.

Batman

The superhero has dedicated his life to fighting crime, trying to get revenge for his murdered parents. His mascot was a black bat – a symbol of secrecy, the fight against evil and injustice. The animal is always present in the Batman costume. There are two well-known versions of the logo in Minecraft: with and without a light yellow ellipse. Even in pixels, the silhouette of the bat is still recognizable.

YouTube

Simplicity is a universal solution for a company symbol. YouTube’s identity is based on minimalism: the red play button informs you of the essence of video hosting, and the laconic black lettering strengthens associations with the brand. Such a logo is easy to create from colored pixels: in the game it looks no worse than it actually is.

Apple

A bitten apple is one of the most famous logos in the world. Apple’s identity symbolizes the company’s core principles such as simplicity, innovation, style and reliability. Due to its brevity, this image can be easily recognized in Minecraft.

Starbucks

Although the company simplified the image of the famous mermaid with a crown on its head several times, recreating this logo turned out to be quite difficult. Face details, wavy hair, and a fish tail look like a blurry image when designed in pixels. The only recognizable elements are the characteristic white and green colors.

Windows 10

An example of a strict and laconic identity that looks equally winning on billboards and in the game. The four squares, placed half-turn, resemble windows. In Windows 10, their outlines were changed from wavy to straight, and the image itself was designed in the style of flat graphics. All this helps to easily build a logo from square bricks.

The iconic sports logo features the Nike wing, goddess of victory. This tick is also called “noise” which symbolizes energy and movement. The laconic and versatile brand symbol looks equally effective in a variety of colors and on a variety of surfaces, including Nike Boy clothing, one of the popular game characters.

Minecraft

The game’s logo symbolizes its plot: the word “Minecraft”, like all other elements in the game world, is made of cobblestones. Gray letters with black outlines are diagonal, which gives a 3D effect. One of the main villains is hiding inside the monster “A” Creeper.

Discord

The messenger was created with the users of computer games in mind, which is reflected in its logo. The image shows a game controller coming to life with a smiling face. The eyes and mouth are simple and schematic so the logo is easy to scale for Minecraft. And the pixel effect fits well with the “computer” concept of identity.

Instagram

Minimalism and symbolism are the keys to the success of a versatile logo. The Instagram symbol has always relied on the camera icon as the main function of social media is photo sharing. In the first versions, the logo was detailed, but was later simplified. The modern painting consists of simple lines and tonal gradations, so it can be easily recreated with the help of playing blocks.

Although there are many components on the famous shield of the National Football League, each one looks simple and clear. The ball, the stars and the NFL acronym remain pixelated, and the patriotic colors of red, blue and white make the identity stand out against any backdrop.

Let’s summarize the basic principles of creating an identity for Minecraft:

  • stick to minimalism: the fewer details, the easier it will be to build a logo from bricks and scale it;
  • simplify each element: schematic images and straight lines are easier to reproduce in pixels than complex geometry and ornamental patterns;
  • use vivid colors: they will help you recognize your corporate identity.

It’s easy to add a server icon to your Minecraft server. You will also attract more players and look more professional with the amazing icon! In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how to add an icon as well as how to create a custom icon from scratch.

Creating a custom server icon

  1. Open Photoshop, then choose File> New
  2. Enter 64 pixels for both the width and height. Make sure it’s 64 pixels and not some other unit of measure such as inches. That would be one huge server icon!
  3. Set “Resolution” to 72 pixels / inch.
  4. Click “Create’
  5. You should see an empty square.
  6. Let’s start by choosing a background color. I chose blue, but you can choose any color you like.
    Choose color
  7. Unlock the background by clicking on the padlock. Unlock the background
  8. Press Alt + Delete to fill the background with the selected color.
  9. Let’s add a strip in the middle. Choose a lighter color then add a new layer by pressing Shift + Ctrl + N.
  10. Select the Select Rectangular Selection tool (M). Click and drag to create a rectangle. When the rectangle is the correct size, release the mouse.
  11. Press Alt + Delete to fill the rectangle with the selected color.
  12. Press Ctrl + D to deselect the rectangle.
  13. Let’s add a fancy gradient effect! Create another new layer by pressing Shift + Ctrl + N.
  14. Select the Gradient Tool (G).
  15. Choose a white color from the color picker.
  16. Copy these settings for the Gradient tool in the upper left corner. Gradient Tool Settings
  17. Now drag the icons down from the top. You should see the white gradient fading.
  18. Set the “Layer 3” blending mode to “Overlay” and the Opacity to 80%. Layer 3 settings
  19. Your icon should now look something like this:
  20. Finally, let’s add some text! Select the Horizontal Type tool (T).
  21. Click in the middle of the screen and start typing text. In our example, I used the free Norwester font.
  22. Now we have a simple, completely custom icon! To add more complex styling to your icon, here are some ideas that may help you:
    • Add layer styles to your letter to make it stand out more! Here’s a good layer styles tutorial to teach you everything you need to know!
    • Add texture to background: Here’s a good tutorial on adding background texture!
  23. When you’re ready to save your new server icon, click File> Save As. Make sure you save as PNG and name it “server icon”. If you plan to re-edit the icon in the future, be sure to save it as a PSD file as well so you can reopen it in Photoshop!

As of Minecraft 1.7.2, server owners have the option to add an icon that will appear in the multiplayer list after ping, which makes it easier to identify.

Prepare Your Icon

The server icon must follow three simple rules to be used on a Minecraft server.

How to check the size of an image

  1. Right-click the image and select Properties.
  2. Select the Details tab at the top to view the dimensions.

After you get the right size, with a named and formatted image, you will be able to upload it to your server to start showing in the server list.

  1. Go to the control panel and stop the server.
  2. On the left side of the game panel, go to the FTP File Access tab. Being in this tab, log in using the password to the panel.

Stop the server. Open the FTP panel

Refreshing the server / server list

If you don’t see an image in your Minecraft server list, make sure you restart the server after uploading and also refresh the in-game server list. If it still doesn’t show up, you can also try adding the server to the in-game list again. If it doesn’t reappear, you’ve most likely encountered one of the following other issues.

Sometimes, if you rename a file after uploading it, you may find that it is not correct. Since the file format, in this case .png, is included in the name in the panel, you may forget to include it when renaming the file server icon.

The image may not be displayed because it is too large or too small. In most cases, you can check the image dimensions on your computer by right-clicking and selecting Properties. After opening this window, you can go to the details tab to see the dimensions of the image. Anything other than 64 pixels wide and tall will not work on the server.

If your image doesn’t have the correct dimensions, you can use this sizing site to fix it.
