Five Years with the PS4: The System’s History So Far, and Where It’s Headed Next
With the PS4 now five years under its belt, here’s a look at the major milestones and events that have made the history of the console.
Five years to the date PS4 was officially released worldwide and introduced gamers around the world to the next generation of Sony hardware. During this time, the system has grown exponentially with an installation base of well over 80 million consoles and a roster of some of the best games to be released in this generation (so far), and although the PS4 is now five years old, 2018 in particular has shown that the system has already provided an extraordinary experience for players all over the world.
To celebrate the PS4’s fifth anniversary, we’ve gone back through the history of the system to highlight some of the most important milestones and events in the life of the system (so far) and what we can expect from the PS4 as we (presumably) enter the system’s twilight and start to wonder what will come with the next PlayStation.
As the last few years of PS3 approached, speculation about another important Sony hardware has started to arise among many representatives of the gaming industry. While the PS3 had a somewhat difficult start during the console cycle – namely due to the high launch price and the difficulties its Cell processor posed to many third-party developers – Sony did try to fix this in the next generation, making its successor more developer-friendly. As chief architect Mark Cerny described in detail at the time, the goal of the PS4 was to use hardware components that were closer to a traditional PC with AMD components.
In 2012, developers started getting reports of development kits for Sony’s next successor to give them an edge over what would be expected of what would be known as the PS4, which was originally codenamed “Orbis.”

As a follow-up to last year’s debut event, Sony made a significant change to the PlayStation Experience in 2015, moving the event to the Moscone Center in San Francisco, although it was no less eventful in a new location.
When is the Among Us PS4 release date?
When is Among Us coming to PS4 and PS5? You don’t have to wait long!
The release date for PS4 Among Us will be December 14, 2021 in the UK and Europe. This is the day when the Among Us: Crewmate edition is coming to our shores, allowing PlayStation fans to jump into the game on PS4 or PS5.
South Korean and Japanese players will have to wait until December 16 to play Among Us on PlayStation, while US, Canadian and Latin American players will have to wait until January 11, 2022.
When is the Among Us Xbox release date?
The same dates are for Xbox fans. The release date of Among Us Xbox will be December 14, 2021 in the UK and Europe, December 16 in Japan and South Korea, and January 11 in the US, Canada, and Latin America.
On these dates, you will receive the Among Us: Crewmate Edition that will run on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S.
Both the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2, which dominated their generations of console wars, entered the market at or before their competition. PlayStation 1 was released right after Sega Saturn and long before Nintendo 64, while PlayStation 2 was released before Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube.

The 1TB version, which is closer to the PS5 specs overall due to 4K HDR and massive storage, also falls short of the original price.
The advanced models currently sell at £ 315 apiece, with experts suggesting their successor may cost at least £ 100 more.
The current forecast is for a price of £ 449, and an announcement for this price is likely to come in July with the first pre-orders.
However, Sony has decided to introduce two versions of the same console, one based on the disc and the other fully digital.

The digital version will likely be cheaper than its slightly bulkier brother which includes a traditional disc tray.
The PS5 is likely to come bundled with some of the most anticipated games from yesterday’s announcement.
Sony has yet to disclose how much its games will cost, but logic dictates that they will exceed current prices.
PS4 games sell for an average of £ 50, so new CDs and online purchases can cost anywhere from £ 55 to £ 60.

Sony’s decision not to disclose prices may have been due to potential competition with Microsoft.
The rivals also unveiled the equally ambitious Xbox Series X console, which will be released around the same time as the PS5.
Developers are probably concerned that revealing the price as the first will lead to its undercut by the second.
However, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan recently admitted their console may not have the “lowest price” in a console battle.

Personally, I disagree that a high bandwidth channel can be very acceptable. In any case, in my opinion, they are doing it wrong for her.
When Was The Ps4 Made What Year
PlayStation 4 is a home video game console developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Announced as the successor to PlayStation 3 in February 2013, it was released on November 15, 2013 in North America, November 29, 2013 in Europe, South America and Australia, and February 22, 2014 in Japan.
Wondering when the Xbox 360 came out or when Sony first launched the PS4? Here are the release dates for several popular consoles.
Wondering when each iteration of PlayStation and Xbox was launched? Sometimes it’s crazy to look back and see how much time has passed since consoles in the past .
Let’s go back in time and see when each console will be released. All years listed are for North America. Dates may differ in other regions.
Will Ps4 Controllers Work On Ps5
Sony has confirmed that it will not be possible to use the PS4 controller to play PS5 games, but it makes sense for the PlayStation 5 to support DualShock 4 when playing games that are backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4. The PS4 controller will function as expected when you play PS4 titles for PS5.
PS4 came out in the summer of 2013, six years after the PS3 was released in March 2007.
Gamers were afraid of the prices of both consoles, but the PS4 turned out to be the cheaper of the two at £ 350.
Now the price has dropped significantly, thanks to the standard 500GB model with three games selling for £ 254.99 on Amazon.
dude, there are two reasons why I’m calling you about this a) I don’t have my own motion detection technology on the way b) natal is terrible, I don’t want to get up to play
When Did the PlayStation 3 Come Out?
The original version of the PS3 was released on November 17, 2006. The revised PS3 Slim replaced it on September 1, 2009. And the final version, the Super Slim model, became available on September 25, 2012.
Microsoft released the original Xbox One on November 22, 2013. The redesigned Xbox One S hit the market August 2, 2016. And the Xbox One X (our review), the most powerful console ever created, was released on November 7, 2017.
When Did the Xbox 360 Come Out?
The original Xbox 360 console launched on November 22, 2005. Its refurbished and slimmed down model, the Xbox 360 S, was released on June 18, 2010. And on June 10, 2013, Microsoft released the Xbox 360 E console, which looks quite similar to the original Xbox One console.
Microsoft’s debut console, Xbox, was released on November 15, 2001. While the controller has undergone a major overhaul, there’s never been a slim console upgrade for the Xbox.

After a lot of rumors and reports that started popping up earlier in the year (with new PS4 hardware codenamed “Neo”), Sony officially confirmed in fall 2016 that two new PS4 models will debut almost three years after the PS4 Slim release and PS4 Pro.
CES 2013
Working with cloud technology company Gaikai, Sony announced its cloud gaming system, PlayStation®Now. This service allows players to play PlayStation®3 games directly on their PlayStation®4 with future support for PlayStation®Vita, Bravia TVs, tablets and mobile phones coming in the future. Once launched, you will also be able to stream games to PlayStation®2 and PlayStation®. [4]
Future of PS4
Some rumors suggest Sony may be developing VR headsets to bring games to life. Rumors suggest a brand new Crash Bandicoot game could hit the PS4, however those rumors have been squashed as Activision didn’t sell Crash Bandicoot’s rights to Sony, it’s just speculation and rumors. Sony could integrate PlayStation TV, which is rumored to be an upcoming Sony service. [5] [6]
The leaked package suggests that Sony may be releasing a PS4 / Vita bundle called “The Ultimate Bundle”, which will be sold in the UK for “under £ 500” and will be available “during the holidays” [7]
The patent suggests Sony intends to redesign the PlayStation Move controller to work specifically with PS4, the new motion controller will feature an all-new touchpad. [8]
The Last of Us (Game Of The Year Edition) has been unveiled by Amazon US and may appear on PS4 at a retail price of $ 59.99. No release date has been disclosed, the date below is only an alternate date. Besides, Samuel is a jerk. (Thought I’d let you know)
For me personally, Natal is just trying to be the next Wii. I also don’t see how tough players can hit the Wii. But for me it is the lack of a real controller that is like a PlayStation controller. I love button games, and this is one thing the Wii just doesn’t deliver.
Older Release Date PS4 News
august 20 – Official PS4 Release Date:
on August 20, 2013 at Gamescom, Sony announced the official PS4 release date, which is November 15, 2013 in the US and November 29, 2013 in Europe! Gamers from all over the world rejoiced! As you think, post your comments below.
August 5, 2013 Patch – Will PS4 be released in December 2013?
According to BT, yes! The site claims to have an internal dustpan on PlayStation 4 launch, claiming the system will land on:
december 13, 2013
BT says that following the announcement of the date on the Toys R Us website in the UK, the company’s customer service representative confirmed the date personally.
But slow down: BT has now contacted a leading toy retailer a second time only to find out that the release date isn’t actually official, just that it’s the company’s best guess.
What do you think? December 2013? Earlier? Let us know in the comments!
June 20, 2013 Patch – Guess Best Release Date
E3 2013 has passed, and while we already know almost all of the PlayStation 4 tech specs, system design, costs, and most games, we still don’t know the most important part: the release date, do we?
A photo has appeared, courtesy of NeoGAF Cyborg user, showing signage from Media Markt store in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with actual release date printed: November 13, 2013 Can we see how the system arrived in the US around the same time as Europe ? Possibly! This date, or anything close to it, seems to make sense as it places the release date before the infamous “Black Friday” (November 29) which is the busiest day of the year for retail stores, followed by “Cyber Monday” (December 2), the busiest day of the year in online stores.
Even though the system is available for pre-order, the official announcement of the release date is still eluding us. What is Sony waiting for?
The PS4 pundits have had enough of the wait, so here’s our own idea of when it’s going to be released: late October / early November.
We already know that Watch Dogs will be available at the time of the system launch, and the game will officially be released on November 19, 2013 for the previous generation systems. Expect to see the PS4 a few weeks before that date, possibly in late October. We are all waiting for the launch of PS4, our gaming life will change forever!
Better start saving now!
April 30, 2013 Patch – More rumors point to October 2013
First, the Assassin’s Creed IV team, now Naughty Dog, is likely to reveal the October 2013 release date.
Unlike Jean Guesdon, who was straightforward in his approach, Naughty Dog takes a different approach, which may be a subtle reference to the PS4 release date. This tip is found in their latest game The Last Of Us, one of the last titles to be released for PlayStation 3.
In a recent trailer for the game, Joel and Ellie stumbled upon a sign that reads “Must Evacuate Notice: 10/17/2013”. While many may think this is just a date picked at random, could it actually be the Naughty Dog that secretly released a date on PS4 for their fans? After all, Naughty Dog is one of Sony’s top developers, so it’s likely that they have that knowledge.

i think the ps4 should be untouchable no other game should be able to beat it, if it does it right the controller should look like it should have a small touchscreen in the center instead of the power button and all you have to do is press and play is on but you can also press where you want to go and it will show you that when the game is on you are ready where you want to go and they should add more things to it, as if you could call some one by simply plugging your phone into it and more, but if they do, the xbox360 will be left in the dust

I agree with you, because if the PS3 was untouchable then the PS4 would be far from all other gaming systems.
Submitted by Anonim on Thu 11/11/2010 – 02:03
yes plugging your phone in will really leave your Xbox in the dust also any well-crafted gaming system will fall out of this league no matter who does it, so that’s just a silly theory. The man at PlayStation fans are crazy I have all 3 systems and I love them BTW. I don’t hate Sony but man you’re scary, everyone else

Wii suck

Wii is the worst console Half of the games do not work after a year and if you fix it, you have the same problem in a month and that’s a fact

There is too much at stake not to get it right. Touch screens, I don’t know, but it will definitely be a seriously ill machine that will be hard to compete with. Hopefully the price isn’t as crazy as it was on the PS3 when it came out.
Posted by PS4Guru on Tuesday 09/15/2009 – 10:50 am
I think the price will be important, but more than that, they just need more and better games at launch and early in the life of the system. It looks like they started slowly, which only got bigger over time as more and more developers switched to the Wii and 360. I think it will be cheaper than the PS3 at launch, but we’ll see. I don’t know about the touchscreen on the controller idea. In theory, this might work in some situations, but you can’t stare at the controller while you’re playing.

Sony to get a competitive edge and give developers time to develop console game development skills, to the point where even when more powerful consoles came out, games released on the older system were just as technically good, providing no real incentive for gamers to transition to new consoles.

Real 6 years for the previous cycles. And it’s true that he came out first earlier. This time around, the PS3 didn’t sell that much because it came later and with games that didn’t feel much more powerful than the Xbox 360. They should come out sooner with less tech, or later with MUCH better tech. Hope they learned it. If PS3 sales increase (say by over 50 million) and they implement their motion controller well (they sell over 30 million) by say the end of 2010 then I see 2013 at the earliest, and 2015 at the latest (also if MS console sales are not that good, let’s say below 40 million) let’s also say they’re just shy 38 million by the end of 2010, and at the end of 2011 I see the PS4 launch.
