Even though the RTX 30 series graphics cards are hard to find these days, they still rank at the top of the best graphics cards on the games list. Nvidia has released the RTX 3070 graphics card and two other high-end options including the RTX 3080 and 3090, but due to the shortages and craze in mining, they’re all overpriced and hard to find in stores. The RTX 3070 is very similar to other cards in the series, but the number of cores, memory size, and speed significantly affect gaming performance.

The founding version of the RTX 3070 and all other vendors have 5,888 cores, while the RTX 3090 offers over 10,000 cores, so there will be a significant difference in performance between them. This graphics card has 8 GB of GDDR6 memory at 14 GBPS, while the other card has 24 GB of memory at 19.5 GBPS. When we compare the price of both, the RTX 3070 makes an excellent foundation for mid-range gaming sets and is perfect for pairing with the latest Ryzen 5000 series of processors.

The seller I would recommend to you for this graphics card is the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3070 OC, which comes with three alternating fans that rotate and provide excellent cooling performance. In addition, this graphics card is factory overclocked so you won’t have any problems with heating and you will have a significant advantage over other vendors and of course the founding release. The power consumption of this graphics card is very similar to other aftermarket cards in that it only needs one 6-pin and 8-pin power connector. This graphics card looks simple but still looks attractive due to the black and silver cover and RGB lights.

The performance of the RTX 3070 is significant enough to be considered a mid-range version, but due to global GPU shortages, this card cannot be purchased at the MSRP. If you can get it on some contract or still want to buy it for your build, it will be the best GPU for the Ryzen 7 2700X.

Quick Shopping Tips:

I understand that laypeople do not understand technical terminology. In addition, there are dozens of GPUs on the market that can confuse them. That’s why I’ve put together these comprehensive but quick buying tips to help you buy the best graphics card for your Ryzen 7 2700X.

Clock Speed: Each GPU has a base clock and a maximum clock speed. The maximum clock frequency is the maximum frequency at which the GPU can run. And remember that the higher the maximum clock frequency, the better performance your GPU can provide. Therefore, always buy a GPU with a decent base and maximum clock speed.

Cooling System: High-end graphics cards and motherboards can heat up easily, especially when performing demanding tasks. Therefore, try to buy a GPU with built-in cooling support, i.e a heat sink or a fan. If your GPU doesn’t have cooling support, you may have to invest in a spare cooler separately and nobody wants to spend the extra money, right? Therefore, try to find a GPU with an integrated cooling system.

Memory bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the amount of data that your graphics card can transfer. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the graphics card transfers data for processing.

HDMI 2.0 ports: Only graphics processors with HDMI 1.5 and HDMI 2.0 ports can run 4K games. If you buy a card with an HDMI 1.0 port, you will not be able to enjoy the gameplay in 4k resolution. Therefore, invest in a graphics card with HDMI 1.5 or 2.0 ports.

RGB Support: Some graphics cards also come with integrated RGB lighting. Therefore, if aesthetics and appearance matter to you, you should buy a graphics card with RGB support.

Best GPU For Ryzen 7 2700X Builds

So let’s start without further ado.

Best AMD GPU for the Ryzen 7 2700X

PowerColor Red Dragon Radeon RX 5600 XT

Red Dragon RX 5600 XT is a new mid-range graphics card from PowerColor.

Based on the original RX 5600 XT, it offers a few changes in the form of a triple slot, dual BIOS, dual-fan cooling and higher clock speeds. These changes, however, result in an extra $ 30 that you have spent purchasing this model.

In terms of design, the Red Dragon RX 5600 XT comes in different shades of gray and features an RGB illuminated Red Dragon logo on the metal backplate. Being a three-slot card, it occupies three PCIe slots on the motherboard.

At the top right, you will find a dual-BIOS switch. This graphics card has two BIOSes: OC and Silent, and you can switch between them as you like. That being said, we later found there was no noticeable difference between Silent Mode and OC Mode.

The games we tested this card on include Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Far Cry 5, and Battlefield V.

In the highest quality mode in Shadow of The Tomb Raider and with TAA and HBAO + enabled, I got 96 FPS at medium @ 1080p resolution. That’s more than what we got from the RTX 2070 and GTX 1080, but the RTX 2060 Super is still missing by a whopping 10%.

When the resolution was set to 1440p, the frame rate dropped but still exceeded the 60fps mark.

While playing Battlefield V in the Ultra settings we got 117 fps in 1080 and 86 fps in 1440p.

Overall, the Red Dragon RX 5600 XT is a decent mid-range processor that excels in games at 1080p and 1440p. However, there are a few games like Metro: exodus and Borderlands 3 where this GPU will limit you to @ 1080p resolution.

It offers 5% better performance than the regular RX 5600 XT with a price difference of just $ 30.

If you compare this with Nvidia’s offerings, you’ll get significantly better performance than the likes of the GTX 1660 Ti and 1660 Super, but it still drops below the RTX 2070 and 2060 Super.

All of this makes the Red Dragon RX 5600 XT quite an attractive option as you only get 10% less performance than the RTX 2060 Super cards, saving over 100 bucks.

The temperature levels are slightly higher than we would like, but this is most likely due to slow fan speeds and it actually helps to lower the noise levels. Like many other graphics cards these days, there’s a 0db feature that keeps the fans from spinning unless the graphics core gets hotter than 60 degrees Celsius.

Second, while 6GB of VRAM is fine for most games, 8GB would be even better – especially when you consider the money you spend on that card. Lastly, we couldn’t find any big difference in performance between its standard mode and its OC mode.

  • RX 5600 XT graphics engine
  • 6 GB GDDR6 video memory
  • Stream processors 2304 units

MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Super Gaming X

Best Nvidia GPU for the Ryzen 7 2700X

MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Super Gaming X

Then we have MSI’s RTX 2060 Super Gaming X – one of the more elaborate variants of the standard super rtx 2060 card.

Like other MSI RTX Super models, there is a black and dark gray diagram on the front and a bronze metal plate on the rear. This backplate has five cutouts in different places and has the MSI dragon logo on the right side.

This dragon logo comes with RGB which adds flavor to the overall design of this graphics card.

There are standard 8-pin power connectors on the right corner of the card, while on the back there are 3 DisplayPort 1.4 and 1 HDMI 2.0.

Two custom MSI fans are used to actively cool the card. And the best thing about these fans is that they have two different types of blades to provide better airflow.

If we are talking about the internals, we are dealing with a nickel-plated copper heat sink base plate that contains four nickel-plated copper heat pipes. For additional heat dissipation surface, these heat pipes contact the graphics core and then extend over various aluminum fins.

Another good thing I found here is that the heat sink is attached to the PCB with just four screws, which makes it very easy to clean your graphics card in the future.

To measure its gaming performance, I played various AAA titles on it such as GTA 5, Far Cry 5, The Witcher 3, and Shadow of The Tomb Raider.

We’re playing GTA V, I disabled TXAA, set the graphics level to very high and got 157 FPS at 1080p. In Far Cry 5 I set the graphics to Ultra and got an average of 122 FPS and 91 FPS for 1080p and 1440p, respectively. We tried playing in 4K but it dropped well below 60fps and only managed to hit 47.

The same thing happened in Shadow of The Tomb Raider where I got 109 FPS and 74 FPS at 1080p and 1440p (highest setting) but only 38 FPS in 4K.

In terms of power consumption, the Gaming X gpu works pretty much the same as the RTX 2060 Super Founders Edition as they both have the same 175W power cap. However, in games, it consumes almost 200 watts on average.

Overall, the Gaming X RTX 2060 super is a pretty solid mid-range graphics card that offers a good improvement over the standard RTX 2060 and allows you to play 1440p games freely.

Its 8 GB VRAM is more than enough for most games, it has good overclocking headroom, and the Twin Frozr 7 thermal design strikes a good balance between aesthetics and performance.

These fans do not spin until the GPU reaches 60 degrees Fahrenheit and do not allow the temperature to drop north of 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

You also get RGB here, and it’s by no means overkill.

In short, if you want to stay with Team Nvidia and aren’t thinking of playing 4K, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try it.
