However, if comfort and raw sound quality were all this headset had to offer, I would recommend the Arctis 7, which is exactly the same and costs much less. The key to getting the most out of the Arctis Pro is its GameDAC unit. This little console acts as an intermediary between the PS4 and the headset and allows you to control the experience in many ways. Whether you want to go deeper and tweak your headset’s EQ and sound profiles, or you just want to change the colors of the lights on your headphones, the DAC has you covered. I bet you may not have heard of Victrix, a PDP Gaming brand that focuses on creating peripherals suitable for esports professionals and aspiring gamers. Either way, it has created a killer wireless headset in Gambit that I think will appeal to a lot of people. It’s a $ 129.99 device that comes in two versions: one that is compatible with the family of Xbox consoles and PCs, and the PlayStation version that works with a key different from the one included with the Xbox version. I tested the Xbox version which has a different chipset.

Victrix Gambit

The Victrix Gambit is a wireless gaming headset that provides the basics with good sound quality and intuitive controls. Unlike many headsets in this guide, Gambit charges via Micro USB, which is a pain.

This headset is easy to recommend to people who want as little manipulation as possible. I’m not a designer, but it’s hard to imagine how Victrix could make the onboard controls more intuitive. There is a microphone on the left earcup that switches on when you lower it and mutes when you lift it back up. This cup also has a button that adjusts between three levels of microphone monitoring sensitivity and a rubberized knob to find the perfect balance between game and chat audio. On the right cup, the fantastic volume knob sits alone as the only control.

I liked the audio quality as much, if not a little more, than the Xbox Wireless Headset above. The Victrix Gambit does not try to seduce you too much with bass or with a too clear sound that sacrifices warmth. It just sounds good out of the box and I have no complaints about its performance when connected to the included USB audio emitter (alternatively you can use wired over 3.5mm). Its microphone quality is also better than expected.

Its build quality is heavily based on plastic and leatherette. That in itself doesn’t affect its comfort negatively, but it didn’t feel like it fitted my head perfectly like a glove like Microsoft’s option did.

For me, the lack of a USB-C charging port on this headset would be a breakthrough – it uses a Micro USB port for charging. Other than that, there aren’t many things Victrix Gambit does wrong, and unlike Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Headset, the included audio transmitter lets you work with your PC out of the box using the Xbox wireless protocol (usually you’ll need to buy a Microsoft headset) its own transmitter that can be used as wireless controller hub). But if you don’t prefer it aesthetically, it’s hard to recommend it over the cheaper Xbox wireless headset if you’re just playing on your Xbox console.

SteelSeries’s Arctis 7P Plus dethroned Sony’s own Pulse 3D headset as the best option for PlayStation gamers, despite costing $ 69 more. It is one of the company’s most complete headsets in terms of features, connectivity and comfort. Indeed, the previous version has already provided comfort, but this year it added more battery life, a game and chat audio knob, and USB-C charging (good elimination, Micro USB).

The new Arctis 7P Plus has the same look and comfort as previous SteelSeries headsets, but this newer model offers better battery life and USB-C charging, making it easier to use the same charging cable your DualSense uses.

If you’ve read anything about the older Arctis 7P, it’s probably still true for the newer one. It features the SteelSeries ski goggle headband that keeps its weight free from pressure points. The ear cups rotate to make them easier to store or lie on the chest. It still includes a USB-C audio transmitter (and USB-A converter), making it compatible with a wide range of devices, including the Oculus Quest 2, Switch, and more. It is these small additions that put this year’s model higher in our rankings than before. In addition, it is available in black if you prefer that color over white.

SteelSeries increased its advertised battery life from 24 to 30 hours on a single charge – a claim it lives up to. I don’t close myself to USB-C charging, and in this case it really makes sense as it’s the same charging port as the DualSense controller. This is the first of many (hopefully) SteelSeries headsets to ditch the Micro USB in favor of the reversible USB standard.

The price of $ 169.99 can be high if you want to spend less, but compared directly to the Pulse 3D headset, the Arctis 7P comfort, microphone quality, button layout, and ease of use make it a much better choice for gamers looking to get their hands on the best bang for your buck.

While the absolute best sound quality can be found in a good wired headset, not everyone wants to deal with all the cables that come with them. So wired may be the best, but wireless still provides an excellent audio experience, and you can’t go wrong with any of the wireless headsets above.

When purchasing a wireless headset, PS5 compatibility is also worth considering. Buying a dedicated headset that only works with PS4 may not be the best idea if you switch to the latest Sony console soon.
