Chapter 2 of Learning PokemonThe Pokemon TCG Buyers Guide; Booster Packs, Boxes, and Decks

If you play Pokémon, the best way to expand your collection is to keep track of future sets. How many Pokemon packs should you buy? Let’s break it down.

When does the next pokemon set come out

Learning Pokemon TCG is a series of blogs and videos that will teach you everything you need to know to start playing! This series is regularly updated to ensure the accuracy of all information.

Once you know how to play Pokemon TCG, the next step is to buy what you need to do it! One of the best, and sometimes the most overwhelming, pieces of Pokemon are the sheer number of cards available.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to try out Pokemon TCG, we recommend that you purchase several Theme Decks. These are pre-built, ready-to-play decks that allow anyone to start playing straight away.

While the theme decks are extremely convenient, this is just the beginning of what’s available in the game. In this chapter, we’ll cover everything you need to know to decide how you want to collect Pokemon TCG!

Booster Packs and Booster Boxes

Pokemon TCG is a card game, meaning players collect cards to build unique decks and play against each other. The primary way players collect these cards is through booster packs.

The Booster Pack contains 10 random cards, similar to a baseball card set. Each card has a rarity, ranging from regular (most frequently added cards) to very rare (most frequently added cards). The standard card distribution in the add-on set is 6 regular cards, 3 rare cards, and 1 rare (or better) card.

Boosters (pictured above) are issued in sets. New sets are released roughly four times a year, each with a unique name such as “Sun and Moon Team Up”. Each set comes with a fixed number of new cards, usually around 200.

When you buy a booster, it will indicate which kit it comes with. As you can see in the picture above, the boosters come from the Sun and Moon Team Up set. If you buy 10 Team Up packs, you will receive 10 Rare Cards, 30 Uncommon Cards, and 60 Common Cards. While booster packs can be purchased individually, they are also commonly sold in a 36-pack box.

One of the best reasons to buy boosters is better card distribution. Imagine there are 220 cards in the set. There are approximately 70 Rare Cards, 70 Unique Cards, and 80 Common Cards in this set. When you buy a single bundle, you will receive a Random Rare Card, 3 Random Uncommon Cards, and 6 Random Regular Cards.

If you occasionally purchase a bunch of boosters at your local game store or Wal-Mart, it’s possible that you open extremely rare and hard-to-find cards every time. It is also possible that you open the same tabs over and over again.

When you buy a booster, you will receive 36 Rare cards, 108 Uncommon cards, and 216 Regular cards. Opening packs from the same box increases the probability of getting different cards. Out of your 36 rare cards, it is normal to have at least 20 different rare cards in a separate box. You can also get 1-2 of each unusual card and 2-3 of the most common cards in the set! It’s just a reality of how factory production for this kind of product works.

Another great reason to buy booster packs is to get a better price. The booster kit has a MSRP (MSRP) of $ 4. It would cost $ 144 to purchase a 36-pack box at MSRP. While most local retailers (such as Wal-Mart and Target) sell their booster packs at $ 4 apiece, you can find booster boxes for less than $ 99. We sell them for $ 89 as part of our subscription, which is less than $ 2.50 per pack!

When you start playing Pokemon TCG, you will hear the term fun set. This corresponds to having 4 copies of a card because you can “play” 4 copies of any card in your deck. To get 4 copies of each card in a set of 60 rations, you would need to purchase at least 240 boosters. With four kits released each year, this quickly becomes very daunting.

Very few players try to collect a game kit from each issued card. There are many ways to approach collecting Pokemon TCG, so let’s go over a few of our recommended ways to build your collection!

Collecting The Pokemon TCG

While there are a seemingly endless number of cards you can collect, you can learn the game and have fun for hours by selecting several theme decks. Again – if you’re new to Pokemon TCG and want to give it a try, we recommend grabbing a few of the latest theme decks like the ones below.

Considering the number of previously issued cards, we also do not recommend trying to catch up by buying boosters from older sets. If there are older cards that grab your attention (such as the original Charizard), you can purchase single cards (also called singles) from sites like TCGPlayer.com.

If you play this game and love it, the best way to expand your collection is to keep track of future sets. Some players only buy a handful of packs when a new set is released, and purchase the rest of the cards they want as singles. Most, however, buy one to three boxes of boosters each time a new kit is released. How many boxes you buy really depends on your budget and the experience you want to have.

Buying one booster is enough to get a variety of cards from the set. This will give you a feel for the new cards and let you know when you decide to buy more packages or buy specific singles. This is a great way, especially if you only plan to play at the kitchen table or just want to enjoy the game with friends and family.

Buying two or three top-up boxes will give you a solid variety of rare cards, and possibly a play set (four of each) of most unusual and common cards in the set. If you want to play in local leagues or tournaments and be able to trade with other players, this will give you all the common and uncommon things you need, along with extra rare ones to trade to get the cards you really want.

Unless you’re collecting for a lot of people, we don’t recommend going over four or five booster boxes. Most sets contain very valuable Pursuit cards, but when you get to the fourth or fifth box, most of the cards you open will be cards that you already have four or more copies of. Usually, it will be much more efficient to trade or buy the final cards you need.

If you want to stay up to date with the new kits in the easiest way possible, check out our Pokemon TCG Booster Box subscription. Subscription activation is free, and you will receive free shipping when you sign up for two or more booster slots. You pay nothing for up to a week or two before a new bundle is released, and the boost boxes are automatically delivered to your doorstep a day or two after launch.

Here you have many options to replenish your collection with the specific cards you want.

  1. Trade Locally – The official Pokemon TCG website has a great tool to find local leagues. Local leagues are a great way to meet players nearby and trading cards are a very essential and fun part of the experience
  2. Pre-Release and Draft Events – If you find a local league nearby, they will likely be hosting pre-release and draft events. Both of these event types require you to have a small number of cards to participate, and you also open a product and build decks directly on the event. They’re great for building your collection and trading, plus tons of fun!
  3. Buy Singles – There are many places to buy singles online and local stores often display Pokemon cards. This is probably the most cost-effective way to get the specific cards you want to add to your deck.

All in all, you can try out the game as easily as possible by selecting several theme decks. From there, we recommend that you download a booster from the latest kit to get to know the game and find out what you will like the most. If you delve into the game, we recommend that you keep up with the new sets by purchasing a box or two from each new set.

You can do this through various local or online outlets, or you can sign up for a Pokemon TCG Booster Box subscription and let us take care of everything. It’s an amazing service that we’ve been running for over 8 years and shipped thousands of packages to subscribers all over the world.

We also highly recommend trading locally, attending pre-release and working events, and buying singles to replenish your collection with anything you don’t get through boosters.

Pokemon Day falls on February 27, and this year is celebrating their 25th anniversary. What’s next?

3. Pokemon “Battle Styles”

In March, there’s another kit coming out to really keep that TCG hype, titled “Battle Styles,” and it’s a kit that is more geared towards competitive gamers, but still has some really cool stuff in it. At this point in time with TCG, collectors are just looking for anything to open up. With the prices of some of the newer kits rising so quickly, people are turning to what’s freshest just to be able to open their cards.

To set a little precedent, the kit called “Live Voltage” was the latest kit to come out originally selling for $ 100-120 per box, now 3 months later for $ 280 per box. This is the kit that just came out. There are many factors that bring it together. This is a request; many people are interested in TCG; we can see many celebrities and social media characters are opening tabs right now and that is increasing the demand. In addition, due to the COVID pandemic, supply has also decreased as Pokemon is not printing as much as it used to be, so there is a bit more of a scarcity when it comes to the quantity of these products. Because of this, people have to buy from sellers and prices keep rising. It’s worth noting, however, that Pokemon just announced that it is increasing its TCG printing products to meet the demand:

I think these next two months will be very interesting from the TCG perspective. I never want to give anyone financial advice because you just don’t know what will happen to the market but I think every time a new kit comes out if you can buy it at a reasonable price you will likely get your return if you keep it as sealed, just because the demand is so high now. For example, I prefer to open a product for fun and entertainment, but either way, I quickly learned that buying products as soon as possible is by far the best choice.

An official release date for Pokemon TCG Live has not been set. However, it is expected to be available by the end of the year.

Pokemon TCG Live: Release Date

According to recent reports, an official release date for Pokemon TCG Live has not been set. However, it is expected to be available by the end of the year. Pokemon TCG Live will have a soft release on mobile devices in Canada first, followed by a global open beta for PC and Mac later this year, although no specific release date has been announced. The Pokemon company thought the change was okay. Pokemon TCG Live will be released soon to replace TCG Online. After all, it might be the breath of fresh air we’ve been looking for.

Many of these card games and other indoor mobile online games have experienced significant spike in player numbers as a result of the current pandemic. The online Pokemon TCG game is no exception and has been very popular lately. The Pokémon Company claims that with Pokémon TCG Live, both newbies and veterans will be able to play the iconic Pokémon & deck-building game with realistic rules and gameplay. Daily missions, customized avatars and accessories, and more features will be added.
