The same goes for Skylines what Rush Hour pack did for SimCity 4 a long time ago. It takes up a good, but not great, part of the base game, and it just pushes it to levels that will make you seriously think about how the hell did you handle it.

Must-have Cities: Skylines DLCs
After Dark
After Dark is not mandatory due to the day / night cycle (which came with the free patch that came with the expansion anyway). It is also not mandatory due to the recreational and tourist buildings (which you may not use at all).
No, what makes After Dark a must is the overhaul of the city services it provides.
The bus terminal is absolutely essential to creating a large, integrated public transport system that can serve a large city. Like any other city in the real world, the ability of bus lines to converge smoothly at a central point is what makes it actually useful for citizens.
After Dark has also introduced cargo hubs that provide a huge boost to the city’s industrial economy, especially with DLC Industries. Even if you’re not a big fan of those yellow map blocks where dirty jobs are done in the city, having them profitable means they don’t just eat up space to keep the demand for labor.
It also features an international airport, and if you have a city big enough for airflow to become an issue, you’ll know exactly what a jewel this late-game building is.
Turn on taxis on the roads to clear traffic jams and you will see why After Dark was a complete and essential extension that offered something for everyone. Typically, it’s $ 7.49 on sale and $ 14.99 full-price, and it’s the first DLC on this list worth paying the full admission cost.
Get it if:
You want your roads to be more efficient and you want a way to generate additional revenue streams to provide diversity to your city’s economy through recreation and tourism.
Miss it if:
For some strange reason (seriously, this DLC is absolutely essential), trying to manage larger cities with inefficient road networks somehow speaks more than having significant gameplay improvements.
Industries
As the game’s promotional materials say, “watch your business” from Industries, a DLC add-on that allows you to impose the RTS of resource management and production on the city builder, without losing the story in either case.
This is the DLC that makes the natural resources on the map useful. It is impossible to overstate how much this completely revolutionizes the gameplay.
Especially when combined with a menu setting that gives you unlimited oil and ore, rather than one that depletes in about 10 minutes of gameplay, this is a DLC that turns industrial zones from makeshift solutions from the early game into your own profit engine.
Moreover, Colossal Order has made creating these new style industrial zones very easy for anyone who has played the base game, and doubles – especially for anyone who has played Parklife. They changed the existing district drawing system to allow you to build an industrial zone exactly where you want and in what size.
The system is not without weaknesses, but they are terribly small.
Depends on your Playstyle
Parklife
I have mixed feelings about Parklife that showed in my DLC review when it came out.
In particular, building a great zoo, nature reserve, city park or Nuka-World is a great way to add a visual flavor to your cities. Also, when done correctly, park districts are a great source of income for the city, making a profit that can then be spent on improving the rest of the city’s infrastructure and anything else to fuel a more prosperous city.
This is the real power of Parklife: an in-game game of creating the perfect park while balancing all the other spinning plates that come with a well-balanced city.
The biggest weakness is that the park mechanics do not make a sufficient contribution to the city in terms of land value per unit cost to justify their existence, unless you build them as a profit driver. The park and recreation system that already exists in the base game is generally better for your citizens if your only goal is to increase the tax base, and as such there is an opportunity cost that comes in the box and wipes out a lot of the benefits.
Everything else in the DLC serves the park system; there is nothing here to please players in the core game, for example Snowfall gave this neat tram system (even if it was the only piece in the DLC and largely obsolete by Mass Transit – more on that later). Sightseeing buses and new reward buildings are linked to the park system.
The DLC will cost $ 14.99 or $ 10.04 during the 33 percent off, and the only real way to recommend it is if you’re the type of person to whom the value of beautifying and screenshots is a place to enjoy a certain style of play.
Get it if:
You want to create a unique look for your cities or you like a more practical role in creating your recreational areas.
Miss it if:
You are more performance oriented, or you don’t want to add complexity to one of your city’s systems without a significant, tangible reward.
Green Cities
This one is not compulsory, mainly because you don’t have to go green to have a perfectly functional and relatively clean city. By the time you enter the office area, this problem usually resolves itself or, at worst, it locks into the “bad part of town”.
But nevertheless, if you play with a playstyle where you want to create beautiful, ultra-modern, clean cities of the future, then scratches that itch perfectly. For the utopian player, new building specializations, electric cars, green parks and the ability to apply environmentally friendly rules to neighborhoods mean there’s plenty of great things to discover here.
Once you’ve got these geothermal power plants up and running and you’ve built yoga gardens, you can steer your city toward the ultimate Recycling Facility, one of the game’s “monuments” to super-buildings, and that is the second strength of this DLC, the fact that the reward at the end is extremely useful.
