Destiny 2: Where to find Xur for the weekend of January 21
Seasoned Destiny 2 players know they can count on the elusive merchant Xura to arrive with special exotic items every Friday, but it’s not so clear where to find him. Below you will find a map with a marker showing where Xur is located, as well as a list of his goods.
If you’re new to Destiny 2 and need a bit more information about how it works, you should know that Xur is a special dealer that sells exotic weapons and armor. Each week, he arrives in the solar system with a list of goods, including Exotic weapons and one Exotic armor for each character class. From Beyond Light, it offers missions to retrieve an old exotic weapon that you may have missed and now has legendary armor and weapons on offer.
Where to find Xur (January 21 to 25)
The trouble with Xur is finding him. We always know when Xur will arrive – it resets every Friday at 10:00 CEST (1:00 PM EST). The question is where will Xur be. Previously in Destiny 2, Xura’s location was marked on the map. It is now unmarked and harder to find every weekend. Here’s where you can track down Xur, Agent of the Nine, as well as everything you need to know about what he’s offering this week.
This week you can find Xura in Nessus, though he no longer appears on the barge. To find it, load into the Watcher’s Grave landing zone and look straight ahead. You will see a huge tree north of your starting position. Approach it and climb its branches. There you will find Xura standing on a wide branch.
Here is the exact location:
Xur is an extremely elusive endgame trader who specializes in selling exotic items. Unlike other vendors in Destiny 2, Xur only appears on weekends and changes its location every time. In this guide, you will be able to find out where Xur is every weekend.
Where is Xur today in Destiny 2?
Xur will be available on Nessus from 17:00 GMT / 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Friday, January 21.
Xur will always appear in the Tortuous Cove (EDZ), the Guardian’s Tomb (Nessus) or in the Tower Hangar. Will that change in The Witch Queen? We’ll have to wait and find out.
Xur returns to Nessus this week.
Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost brought a huge change to Xura’s eternal purpose. Starting with season 15, Xur offers a weekly selection of legendary weapons and armor alongside his typical Exotics.
The Mysterious Agent of the Nine doesn’t have much to offer this week when it comes to legendary gear, but the legendary Night Watch Scout Rifle is solid.
This selection adds a whole new dimension to Xur and gives you the chance to get some weapons and armor sets that you may have missed in previous seasons. While this is not confirmed, it appears that Xur may even sell a select trial weapon offer, so be sure to check back weekly to see what’s on offer.
Purchasing any of these exotic items can be a good way to instantly increase your Power level as well as add items with interesting bonuses to your inventory.
Who is Xur?
Xur is the agent of the nine, he is an exotic vendor who brings an exotic hunter, titan and sorcerer along with weapons every week. Everything he brings is sold for Legendary Shards, which can be easily obtained by playing the game and crafting Legendary Items. Xur also has an Exotic Engram that guarantees an Exotic that you don’t have, but this one is not cheap (97 Shards). Additionally, this engram can only be opened once a week for one character.

This is his next Xura arrival this season, very excited to get some new exotics. Are you excited?
Xur will return to Destiny 2 this week and is set to open a store in a different location with a brand new assortment available to Guardians. In fact, starting with Season of the Lost, he can now sell a series of Legendary items as well – adding a new dimension to the Mystery Merchant.
Ashen Wake
Wake Ash was added in Destiny 2: StrategOS. Its main exotic strength is Bring the Heat, which causes the fusion grenades used by Solar Titans to explode immediately on impact and move faster through the air. Kills with fusion grenades also return grenade energy. This effect is quite useful if you are interested in using Solar Titan in PvP. There are also setups with heavy grenades that make use of these exotics. Ashen Wake is definitely worth the legendary shards for casual Titan players.
Xura’s throw this week includes a total of 62 stats.
Apotheosis Veil
Apotheosis Veil is a returning exotic to Destiny 2, re-added in the StrategOS expansion. When you activate your Super, your health, grenade, rift, and melee energy will replenish instantly. Nearby allies also regenerate some of the energy of class skills. This helmet is fine at best. There are so many good, elemental sorcerer exotics out there that we’re really not sure when this helmet will be your best choice.
Xura’s throw this week includes a total of 61 stats.
Weekly Exotic Item Vendor Xur is located in random locations around the world of Destiny. In Destiny 2, it can appear anywhere on the map as well as inside the Tower. This week, you can find Xura on Nessus standing in a tree in the Guardian’s Tomb .
Crown of Tempests
Crown of Tempests is a pretty good exotic wizard, especially if you like Stormcaller. The main advantage of this helmet, the conductive teeth, causes bow kills to renew your bow skills and extend the duration of your ultimate; this skill is now stacking. The only bad news about this helmet is that it has to be used with Stormcaller, which is now great Super PvP and decent for taking out enemies in attacks and raids. If you don’t have this helmet for your Sorcerer, you should definitely consider purchasing one.
Xura’s kick this week is Arc and includes 64 stats.
Exotic Cipher quest
Image: Bungie by Polygon
Starting at Beyond Light, Xur has a new exotic cipher quest. The Exotic Cipher allows you to purchase old exotic items at the Monuments to Lost Light kiosk in the tower. You will need these items and a few other currencies to claim exotic items such as Phantom Heir and Truth.
This week, Xur wants you to either complete 21 strikes or win Crucible or Gambit matches. After completing the quest, you will obtain an exotic cipher that you can use however you like.
The Prometheus lens is an exotic from the Curse of Osiris. It used to be one of the most powerful weapons in all of Destiny 2, when a bug (now fixed) was causing it to deal ridiculous PvP damage. The Prometheus lens is still amazing when it comes to removing large crowds of enemies at once.
Xur Location
Find Xur at the northern end of the hangar, on the small pier near the edge of the area.
From the transmission zone in the courtyard, go left. Take the stairs down until you reach the hangar area and turn left again to go to the north side of the space. Xur climbs the small steps while waiting at the railing at the edge of the area.
Xur is present in Destiny 2 every weekend starting with the daily reset at 10:00 AM EST. 9:00 PT / 12:00 ET every Friday. Its exact location is always a mystery when it first arrives as it is not on the map and it is easy for novice players to miss. There are, however, a limited number of locations he is located in, including the Hangar area in the Tower, on Nessus in the Guardian’s Tomb, and in the Winding Bay area of the EDZ.
Xur Exotic Items
Xur is offering Fighting Lion this week, the quintessential reel-loading grenade launcher that every Destiny 2 player should spend some time getting used to. The Kinetic Launcher will teach you how to be good at deflecting grenades around corners and timing them detonating, and it can also tear your way through enemies in PvE and PvP modes if you’re good at taking direct hits. If you’re not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic Engram that he will decrypt into an Exotic that you don’t yet own. Just remember that you can only buy one per week, and the engram is specific to the character class that buys it – so if you’re trying to get a new Titan Helmet, don’t buy the Engram with your Sorcerer. It also has a new Xenology mission that awards an exotic cipher.
- Exotic Engram – 97 Legendary Shards
- Fighting Lion – 29 legendary shards
- Shinobu Oath – 23 Legendary Shards
- Synthoceps – 23 legendary shards
- Ophidian Aspect – 23 Legendary Shards
- Quest Xenology – for free
- Legendary Weapons and Armor – 50 Legendary Shards, 1000 Glimmer
In addition to the changes in its location, Xura’s inventory also changes every week. This means that it is worth visiting him every time to check out his new weapons and rolls for exotic and legendary armor. You can visit him at any time between his arrival on Friday and the weekly reset at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur leaves the Solar System.
Destiny 2 news and guides
Fighting Lion (Grenade Launcher)
Fighting a lion is powerful and deadly, but requires some skill.
If you want to be good with recoil grenade launchers, use Fighting Lion. The pistol teaches you how to best use this type of weapon, allowing you to remotely detonate grenades after they have been fired by releasing the trigger. Lion’s combat grenades bounce and the launcher reloads faster when you actually damage it with grenades. If you manage to hit directly, you take increased damage to enemy shields, so it’s great for shooting tough enemies in crowds or, once you’ve hone your skills, at Crucible Guardians. Missing arrows are penalized with a slow reload, but once you get used to Fighting Lion it can be devastating.
Shinobu’s Vow (Hunter)
Boost your jumping grenades with the Shinobu Oath – they are quite effective in the Crucible.
You may have noticed that this season, Hunters used grenades that were missed in the Crucible. They’re already quite effective at tracking down and eliminating enemy players – grenades get even better with the Shinobu Oath. Exotic improves the overall effectiveness of jumping grenades so they track them better and longer, and also gives you a second grenade charge. You also get grenade energy when you damage them, allowing you to get grenades even faster. Team up with a weapon that uses the Demolitionist or Adrenaline Junkie for maximum effect.
This week you can find Xura in Nessus, though he no longer appears on the barge. To find it, load into the Watcher’s Grave landing zone and look straight ahead.
