Everything you need to know about The Sims 4 on Steam

The Sims team has just expanded their audience to another new platform – Steam!

For those who don’t know, Steam is a PC / Mac gaming platform (very similar to Origin) that allows you to buy and track different video games from different developers. From GTA V to new EA titles being ported to Steam, almost everything is there! It also serves to bring together a community of video game fans with their forums, achievements, trading cards, and more.

Several questions arose with The Sims 4 launch on Steam. I will try to summarize all the frequently asked questions and answer them below:

What is Steam?

Best described by Wikipedia, Steam is:

… Valve’s digital video game distribution service. It was launched as a standalone software client in September 2003 as a way for Valve to provide automatic updates to its games and expanded to include games from third-party publishers. Steam has also expanded to include an online web store and a mobile digital store. Steam offers digital rights management (DRM), server hosting, video streaming, and social networking services. It also provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games, and social features such as friends and groups lists, cloud storage, and in-game voice and chat features.

How does this affect current The Sims 4 players on Origin?

Expanding The Sims 4 & Collection on Steam has no effect on your currently preferred platform.

What benefits are there to The Sims 4 arriving on Steam?

There are many players who prefer to play video games exclusively on Steam. Some even like to show off their entire collection of video games that they have there, considering the vast majority of titles available on this platform.

Steam uniquely connects its community with user reviews, achievements, trading cards and forums. All of this is now also available to The Sims 4 players!

Which Sims games can I get on Steam?

You can get The Sims 4 and all its expansions, gameplay packs, and accessories now, as well as The Sims 3 and all its packs. There’s also a sale until July 9, 2020 where you can buy The Sims 4 base game at 50% off, add-ons and gameplay packs at 30% off, and Stuff at 20% off!

Do I still need Origin / EA Account to play The Sims 4?

Yes. One of the main features of The Sims 4 is the Online Gallery, where you can download creations made by other players. Given that the feature was built on Origin & servers and servers, you will need to create an EA account and install Origin on your PC in order to play.

When you launch The Sims 4 on Steam, the game will run on Origin (if you’re already logged in) and the Origin & client will run quietly in the background while you play.

But I already have The Sims 4 and all / some of the Packs on Origin…

There really is no need or benefit to have The Sims 4 and its bundles purchased on both Steam and Origin. Once again, this is only an advantage for players who prefer to have their games on Steam.

You won’t be able to transfer your collection from Origin to Steam. However, if you have the base game The Sims 4 on Steam and already have Packs on Origin, you will be able to have exactly these Packs when launching The Sims 4 on Steam.

We’ll look at all of The Sims 4 expansions and help you decide if they’re worth buying.

Get Together

Release Date: December 2015

One of the greatest parts of The Sims is watching your characters interact with each other. Whether it’s telling stories, telling jokes or falling in love, one of the core elements of the game is your relationships. Get Together is taking advantage of this by introducing a new Club System that brings together a group of Sims with a common passion.

Whether it’s hanging out at a coffee shop, dancing at a nightclub, or building your own group around niche interests, this expansion is perfect for those who like to send their Sims home from home with others. The addition of the world of Windenburg is one of the best parts, with a stylish European atmosphere where it is perfect to hang out.

Should I buy it? Creating and managing a club is great fun, and Sims can interact without micromanaging. Plus, the new world looks amazing. If you like The Sims social site, get Get Together.
