Game freezes or freezes can be caused by a number of reasons, but there are ways to get back into the game faster and possibly stop future hiccups from happening so often.

The most common Xbox One problems and how to fix them

Even with the arrival of the Xbox Series X and Series S, the most common Xbox One problems still exist. Microsoft’s contribution to the eighth generation of the console has received several fixes, each of which fixed previous problems and introduced its own problems. In this guide, we walk you through the problems you may encounter and how to fix them on all versions of the console.

However, it is possible that the problem you are having is not on the back of your Xbox One. If you don’t see your problem in the list below, see our Xbox Series X troubleshooting guide and our list of common Xbox Live problems.

Getting in touch with Microsoft

We recommend that you use the Microsoft website to register your Xbox One console. This will speed up any issues that are still under warranty. Registering your console also allows you to check the warranty status. If your console is under warranty, repairs are free.

When plugging it in, do it on a plug that is not connected to any other electronics. After checking that it turns on and hopefully it turns on, you can plug it into the outlet your TV is plugged into, if you need to.

Connecting an Xbox to a Windows PC Using the Xbox App

The Xbox Console Companion app gives you full control of your Xbox One console from your Windows PC. Lets you start or shut down your Xbox console, stream Xbox games to your PC over your local network connection, install or remove games, and chat with friends playing on your Xbox console.

The Xbox Console Companion app is installed on all Windows PCs as part of Microsoft’s plan to further integrate the two services. If you have a local user account, you’ll need to sign in with your Microsoft account to use the app – users with existing Microsoft accounts should find an app that signs them in automatically.

  • When the Xbox app is connected to your Microsoft account, it won’t automatically connect to your Xbox console – you’ll need to do this manually. To do this, press the connect icon in the menu on the left side of the Xbox app on your PC.
  • In the Connect to Xbox One window, click the Add Device icon in the upper-right corner.
  • Windows will automatically search for your Xbox One console. If it detects this, press the Connect button. If you need to do it manually, enter your Xbox console’s IP address in the field provided, then press Connect to connect to it.

  • If you can’t connect, you may need to allow streaming connections in your Xbox settings. To do this, open your Xbox settings and go to Devices & Streaming> Device Connections. Make sure that the settings for Allow streaming, Allow game streaming to other devices, and Only from profiles logged in to this Xbox are checked or turned on.

  • After adding your Xbox, you should see it listed under the Connections tab. From there, you can turn your Xbox console on or off, view the currently open game or application, test streaming quality, or stream your Xbox to PC by pressing Cast.

Streaming Xbox Games to a Windows PC

You can stream Xbox games to your PC from the Connections tab in the Xbox Console Companion app.

  • On the Connections tab, press the Stream button to start streaming your Xbox One console to your PC.
  • After the stream is established, you must decide whether you want to connect your Xbox One controller to your PC or continue operating it from your Xbox console. If your Xbox is a bit further away, you can connect it to your PC. When you are ready to continue, hit Continue.
  • When using an Xbox controller, you can navigate normally in the Xbox One menu. Play a game by selecting it from the My Games & Applications menu.

While the Xbox 360 doesn’t consist of exactly the same components as the Xbox One, it does use the same kinds of components like motherboard, CPU, RAM, and the like.

Elden Ring has gone gold ahead of its Feb. 25 release date

Elden Ring, a much-anticipated title from legendary RPG developer FromSoftware, is about a month ahead of its release. It was revealed during the Taipei Game Show 2022 that the Elden Ring officially went gold and the team is currently working on a Day One patch.

Review: The ABS Challenger (ALI598) is an impressive, affordable gaming PC

Got around 400,000 to spend on a gaming PC? Newegg’s ABS Challenger does many things well without shortening a lot of corners, and its 1080p performance cannot be ignored.

Once you’re sure your Xbox is dry, you’ll want to double-check it. Turn it upside down, use the dryer again, and just do whatever you need to do to make sure you get as much water out as possible.

Step 3: Lower Shell

There are two halves of the outer casing 360. The lower shell is held in place by plastic locks on the front and rear. We will use a 360 degree opening tool to open the locks and small flat screwdrivers to release the front locks. Everything is falling apart at the same time.

Rear locks
If you don’t have a 360 degree opening tool, you can measure the distance of the locks and make your own using the CD spindle cover and scissors. If you are using a flat head screwdriver, use one hand to keep the two halves apart, otherwise some locks will re-lock.

There are seven back locks, and using the llama opening tool, align the pins with the corresponding locks and press down. When you apply enough pressure you should hear a click, now you can separate the backs of the lower and upper shells.

Front locks
You can use flat screwdrivers or paper clips to hold open locks. All four are minted at the same time and the lower shell can be removed. You must cut or peel off the Microsoft warranty sticker on the front of your console, which will void your warranty. The stickers have debris that prevents them from being reapplied. If you have a metal sticker, take care of the warranty, read below. If you have one of the new paper stickers, there is no effective way to remove it without Microsoft knowing.

Metal movie trick
For the metal foil sticker, you can use a high temperature hair dryer for about 10-15 seconds to make this glue melt, then carefully and slowly peel off the sticker with a razor blade to remove the sticker without leaving any traces of metal. This trick can be useful when a system that has been opened has been repaired by a Microsoft repair service. I have heard of many users who have tried to fix RRoD themselves and have failed to do so, they probably will not check for other minor signs of tampering.

Step 4: Screws/DVD Drive

There are a large number of screws to remove. I suggest cutting off a long strip of adhesive tape to stick your pieces together so that when you reassemble the console, it can fit smoothly.
See the photos below for the location of the screws.

First, remove the DVD eject button by inserting a small flat screwdriver between the DVD drive and the base of the eject buttons.

housing screws
The top case is attached to the case with six Torx T10 screws. In the picture below, they are highlighted in red. These screws can be identified as round head screws and are approximately 3 1/2 inches long.

Removing a DVD
After removing the six housing screws, turn the console right-side up and remove the top cover. Disconnect the SATA cable and power cable from the DVD drive. Be careful with the DVD drive’s power cable as the connector is fragile and the wires can be torn off, so grab all the black wires as close to the connector as possible and pull the connector firmly. There are two friction clamps on the front of the DVD drive to prevent sliding and rattling. Also lift the metal tape that secures the drive to the chassis. Remove the drive and place the friction clamps on the roll of adhesive tape.

Motherboard screws
These screws are marked in green in the image below. They connect different parts of the motherboard to the case. They are about 1 inch long, brown in color, and have a round top. Unscrew them all with a T10 Torx screwdriver and place them on the roll of tape.

heatsink screws
For the last eight screws, highlighted in blue, tilt the console to an upright position. We don’t want to remove the bolts when the system is upside down as the weight of the heatsinks on the end bolts may have enough tension to crack some marks. With the console upright, remove the last eight screws with the T8 and turn the console right-side up.

We recommend that you use the Microsoft website to register your Xbox One console. This will speed up any issues that are still under warranty. Registering your console also allows you to check the warranty status. If your console is under warranty, repairs are free.

Why Does Xbox One Turn On By Itself And How To Easily Fix It?

Xbox One

There may be times when your Xbox One starts randomly even when you don’t necessarily want it, which means there may be an issue with your game console. And while there are many reasons why your Xbox might turn itself on, most of these problems are easily fixed. Always look for each of the following possibilities to find the cause and correct the problem accordingly.

Why does my Xbox One turn on by itself?

Power button sensitivity

The original Xbox One console has a capacitive power button, not a physical one. This means it can actually sense your finger to turn on the console instead of the button. There are many factors that can activate the power button on your Xbox One console, including an accidental touch. The game console can also be activated by particles of dust, debris or other materials. If this is an issue, it should be resolved by simply wiping the front of the console with a microfiber cloth.

Xbox One controller fault

Given that the Xbox One console can be turned off with the controller, this could be a wake-up call, especially if the controller is broken or malfunctioning.

You can easily test the controllers by removing the batteries for a while to see if the problem persists. Also, make sure the Xbox button on your controller is not stuck.

HDMI controls

HDMI Consumer Electronic Controls (HDMI-CEC) allows the TV to control HDMI devices, including the Xbox One console. For this reason, the game console can turn on every time someone turns on the TV.

If your TV supports HDMI, your Xbox One probably keeps turning on when it’s not needed. Luckily, you can easily fix this problem by turning off the HDMI-CEC feature in your TV settings. If you are unsure how to access this setting, you may need to consult your owner’s manual or contact your TV manufacturer. This is because the exact process for changing these settings varies between brands.

Cortana could be an issue

Microsoft’s Cortana Virtual Assistant can be another common reason your Xbox One starts up randomly. So, if you have this turned on on your Xbox, he’ll likely pick up a random call from your room or TV and think you told him to turn on the console.

Instant-on mode

If you have Instant-On mode turned on on your Xbox One console, the console won’t shut down completely. Instead, it goes into low-power mode. You can always disable this feature by following these steps:

Step 1: Press “Guide” on the controller.

Step 2: Go to “System” and click “Settings.

Step 3: Go to ‘Power & Startup’ and select ‘Power Mode’.

Step 4: Click “Energy Saver” and restart your Xbox.

System updates

The Xbox console can also start automatically to download and install the latest system updates. Make sure your console is always up to date or just turn off automatic updates to avoid the problem.

After that, you’ll want to open your Xbox console. You will need a few tools for this. I will list these tools below. This is one of your first hurdles, and it can happen because Xbox and all consoles have security measures in place to prevent people from opening their console.

About Me

I have been working in the IT industry since 2011 and I have been an avid gamer all my life. My first consoles were sega genesis and Nintendo SNES. I play both console and pc games, love both. I decided to combine my passion for games with my passion for writing.

While it’s not as disturbing as hearing a disc in your console, an Xbox One that doesn’t read discs isn’t ideal, especially if your library is mostly made up of physical games. Some users have reported that consoles do not read certain games and even have a common problem reading all discs.

Use the Xbox Console Companion app

  • If you have a Windows 10 desktop or laptop, it likely already has the Xbox Console Companion app installed. (This was previously known as the Xbox App; Microsoft is in the process of transforming it into a more extensive gaming dashboard.) You can download the app from the Microsoft Store, if you don’t already have it on your computer.
  • Open the app, and then sign in to your Microsoft account (which is also your Xbox account) when prompted to do so.
  • After you’re signed in, click the menu button in the upper-left corner of the Xbox Console Companion app. The item list will open. Click “Connection” at the bottom of this list.
  • Click “Add Device” in the top center of the application window. The app searches for the Xbox One console on your network. Click “Connect” when you find your console.
  • If the console does not show up, enter its IP address in the appropriate field. You can find your Xbox One’s IP address by going to your console’s settings menu, then clicking “Network”> “Network Settings”> “Advanced Settings.”
