Find Best VRchat Avatars

VRchat is a virtual reality game that allows people from all over the world to socialize, attend events, create games with art games and explore virtual environments in the comfort of your own home.

In this game, each player takes the form of an avatar that you can choose from a library of hundreds of options, but the downside is that other players may have the same avatars as you.

If you want to create custom VRchat avatars, you can go two different ways!

You can create it yourself, using the appropriate tools and software, or find an artist selling on a specific platform and have them design a 3D model at your request.

It’s not easy to create a custom VRchat avatar yourself if you are a beginner. Requires knowledge of 3D modeling, rendering, and rigging software.

The price depends on the complexity of the avatar model. The best VRchat avatars can cost up to five thousand dollars. Or you can get one for $ 10 if you like!

1. Fiverr

Fiverr

The best VRchat avatars can be found on Fiverr. It’s an amazing platform where you can find the right artists and order a custom avatar without waiting months.

It is the world’s largest digital services market with a record number of over 3 million different services.

Among other services, there are also dozens of VRchat avatar creators. They differ in both price and quality and can be found in the VRchat section of the website. You should determine your budget given that prices range from $ 5 to $ 350$.

Running custom VRchat models has never been easier as there are tons of talented artists online. You just need to choose the one that suits your style!

It can be difficult to choose between so many talented and experienced artists in 3d modeling. Try not to overwhelm the number of sellers, look for recommendations and reviews.

The upload process is quite simple! All you need to do is register, select a contractor and fill in the required information. Besides, the main benefit of ordering a custom avatar through Fiver is the short delivery time.

If you are looking in the Character Modeling section, among other things, requirements, be sure to always inform the artist that your model is made for VRchat.

2. Unity Asset Store

Unity resource store

The first step is to find a 3D model suitable for this game. Fortunately, there are many sources you can turn to to get started with VRchat models.

Unity Asset Store is one of the best places to start! As a beginner, it’s best to start with a specific VRchat model that has already been created, rather than building your own from scratch.

The models come pre-loaded which means you can use them straight away! They’re made in a compatible format, and you don’t need to do anything else to get them running.

There are many free models to choose from. Armored Knights, VRchat anime avatars, cartoon characters, pretty much anything you can think of. The model is to be fully armed and made in a format approved by Unity.

Getting stuck in VRChat is just a guarantee. Someone may fall off a cliff and not want to spend time slowly climbing back up, or just get trapped in the map itself without being able to pull out their character model.

10 You Don’t Need VR To Play VRChat

Contrary to its name, VRChat is not a VR exclusive game. Being in VR allows players to interact more intimately with their surroundings and mimic their avatars in real movements, but it’s not required.

VRChat is free to download on Steam (with the paid premium version on their home page) and only works on PC. Users can run like other online chat games, but they won’t be able to wave their arms or talk with their hands.

9 It’s Not A Game For Kids

VRChat is what it is today due to its tremendous customization possibilities. Players can create their own worlds, their own avatars, and even code custom emotes for their avatars. Unfortunately, this means some players see it as an opportunity to create less-than-spicy content.

There aren’t many ways to control content locked in the game, and it’s almost impossible to stop people from profaning in in-game voice chat. If anyone has children who are interested in playing VRChat, be sure to at least monitor them.

The models come pre-loaded which means you can use them straight away! They’re made in a compatible format, and you don’t need to do anything else to get them running.

Installing VRChat on Linux

Installing VRChat can seem like a challenge for Linux users. But don’t worry because we’ve got you covered.

First, you can use Lutris – an open source platform for Linux that helps support Linux games. Lutris allows you to seamlessly install and run any game you want to play.

To install VRChat on Linux, follow the steps below:

  1. First, download the latest Vulkan driver (we recommend DXVK) and update to the latest MESA (graphics card) for whatever card you are using – NVIDIA or AMD.
  2. Install Steam using Winetricks (a helper script that helps you download and install the runtime libraries). Alternatively, enter the following command in a terminal to install it (for Debian-based Linux distributions only):
  1. Now install Wine-staging 3.10 from your Linux package manager.
  2. Download the DXVK driver from here.
  3. In your winecfg (configuration file), please change your Windows version to Windows XP to get the store running.
  4. Go to libraries.
  5. Add downloaded DXGL and D3D11 DLL packages from DXVK 64 bit package.
  6. Edit the settings and set them to native.
  7. Then download and install VRChat. You can download it by clicking here.
  8. After the download is complete, go to VRChat startup properties, add the D3D11 package.
  9. Now start the game.
  10. You can now modify the settings to your liking.
  11. Choose Desktoplow.

Once you have completed the steps correctly, you are ready to run the game on Linux.

Note: The above steps may seem a bit daunting for beginners unless they are familiar with the Linux environment. Try to get used to the distribution, its package managers, file configuration settings, and using drivers to better understand. Besides, you can also run the game with a virtual machine in Windows if your system has no memory limits.

VRChat Gameplay

VRChat is nothing complicated. Players are free to create their own worlds and avatars and interact with whoever they want. They also have the ability to create or import characters. These characters, called avatars, can move, blink, track eye movements, and synchronize their lip movements with their friends and community members.

VRChat does not require users to have VR hardware to play the game despite the name. However, you can make use of your gear and use both hands while playing an action game. There is also a desktop version for users who don’t have VR goggles, but it has a number of limitations.

If you have Oculus hardware (such as the Rift S or Quest), the Oculus app is your best bet! If you have Oculus headset, you should already have VR set up. Just search for VRChat in the Oculus software and install.

Make Sure Your Custom Avatar Works Before Publishing

From here, you can technically post your avatar on VRChat immediately, but you’ll likely have to make changes. Open the VRChatSDK drop-down menu again and select Show Build Control Panel for information to help guide your model. For example, yellow triangle prompts may indicate that the model has too many polygons or that the angles between some bones are not optimized for VRChat.

This is where you can run into a lot of unexpected issues, and a full Unity modeling tutorial is just beyond the scope of this article. In most cases, you can easily find change options, but in some cases you may need to dig into Unity’s documentation.

For example, if your model is too large, go back to the Inspector tab and change the numbers in the Scale settings to modify the figure (for example, put 0.5 on the X or Y axis to reduce the height or circumference of the model by half).

After making the necessary changes, click the Auto Detect button in the middle of the Inspector tab to make sure everything is set up the way VRChat needs it, then click Build and Publish in the Build Control Panel window. Again, this process will take a long time on weaker machines.

Complete and Upload Your Custom VRChat Avatar

Once the compilation process is complete, the center pane of Unity will display the New Avatar screen, where you can name your avatar, write a description, and check the boxes that contain violence.

Please note that you must check the box indicating that you have the rights to each character you submit. While this won’t be a problem if you’re using the Unity Store, the licensing rights can be an issue if you download famous characters like Sonic from another source. Obviously people ignore this rule as you will see tons of licensed characters in the game, but be aware that this could lead to legal issues for VRChat in the future and potentially cracking down on what is uploaded.

Click Submit to send your awesome avatar to the world of VRChat! Now close Unity and open VRChat. Log in with the same credentials you used to create your avatar and it will be ready and waiting to be used in the game!

Using a custom 3D knight model from the Unity Store

Of course, creating 3D models is a complex process and you can run into a lot of problems, especially when trying to get a character ready to work with VRChat specs. For advanced techniques and a list of useful third-party tools that will improve this process, see VRChat Wikia here.

Let us know when you’ve managed to build and upload your custom VRChat avatar so we can check it out in-game!

You can do this by going to the research section of your screen and clicking the Add Component button at the bottom. A menu will appear with various options that you can use.

Just search for Avatar in the search bar and you will see a popup option called VRC_AvatarDescriptor. Select this option and it will be set up for your avatar.

It’s important to note that, for security reasons, Unity won’t let you export avatars until you’ve used the software for a certain amount of time. Just play around with the program and familiarize yourself with it and you’ll finally get a notification that you can export your projects.

All you need to do now is start the game and find your avatar to use.

This site is full of avatars that the community has created and shared with everyone. You can view current avatars and even search for specific characters. People love them, so you have no chance of finding a specific character.

A Note regarding Non-Private Instances

We instruct you to use private instances here to meet the people you send links or invitations to. The best way to do this is with private instances. However, we have other types of instances: Friends, Friends +, and Public.

These instance types are very popular in social sessions and hangouts, but we have more restrictive instance types that are better suited for smaller groups with friends. You can read the descriptions of the meaning of each instance type in the “New Instance” menu in VRChat when you select the type of instance to be created.

Many VRChat users live in open spaces in public or friends’ worlds. Fair warning: These public worlds can get a bit hectic or spicy!

We won’t be discussing the Public or Friends instances here, but we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the Private instances before moving to Public, especially if you are trying to meet specific individuals. When you’re ready, you can explore more open spaces and instances.

Our community has created tens of thousands of unique worlds for you to explore. Here are some suggestions that we recommend to meet during the first few sessions.

Bamboo Temple — by 1001

Comfortable compact pastel colors and the feeling of a warm summer morning come together in the Bamboo Temple. This world is a great place to take your first steps in VRChat.

Since we started our journey to building VRChat, we have heard countless stories of how the platform has helped people make new friends from around the world, see and interact with their family away from home, deal with social anxiety, collaborate with others and feel less isolated. We want to show everyone these stories and let people find their own.

Incidentally, the entire VRChat team works remotely – VRChat has been the main way we’ve met as developers over the last five years. Not only do we work using VRChat, but many of us spend time with friends and family on our own product. We want everyone to know how much difference VRChat has made, both us and our community.

We have seen VRChat connect many people. We hope to help people cope with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in our own little way.

Thanks for reading, and welcome to the VRChat community.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any problems or questions. We are happy to help you get started.
