How to Stream on Discord

With so many streaming options available today, picking the right one is essential to achieving the best results. You can use online services like YouTube, Twitch or even the popular Discord chat app.

Discord is arguably the best streaming service on the market. Thanks to the unmatched compression quality, you are guaranteed a stable streaming connection.

Plus, voice chat leaves the competition behind. In addition to its excellent quality and reliability, it is quite easy to set up and even easier to use.

How to Stream on Discord from a Windows PC

The first requirement for streaming from your computer with Discord is to have a Discord server equipped with at least one voice channel. While most users access Discord in a web browser, game streaming is currently only available through the Discord standalone app.

To download the application for your Windows PC, visit the Discord download page and click the Download for Windows link. After the download is complete, run the setup file and follow the on-screen instructions. The process is quite simple and is no different from any other application.

Creating Your Own Discord Server

Now that you’ve installed the Discord app on your computer, it’s time to create an account and your own Discord server. To do this, follow the steps below.

Now that you’ve created your Discord server, you can send friend requests to join. You can also add additional text and voice channels to keep different topics separate.

For example, you can create a Rules feed so new members know what’s allowed and what’s not. If you want to create a dedicated voice channel just for you and your two best friends, you can do that as well.

Streaming Games on Discord

It only takes a few seconds to stream your game to Discord. Thanks to its integrated game detection software, Discord should recognize almost any game. This allows you to start broadcasting with one click.

Before continuing, it’s important to note that the free version of Discord only supports 480p and 720p resolutions. You must subscribe to Discord Nitro to be able to stream in 1080p and above. The service costs only $ 9.99 / mo or $ 99.99 per year depending on your preference.

This also applies to the framerate in the stream. The free version is capable of 15 and 30fps, with the much coveted 60fps only available to Discord Nitro subscribers.

Now that you’ve set up your Discord server, it’s time to start streaming.

Like iOS users, Android users can use Discord’s screen sharing feature to stream games from their phone or tablet. To get started, open Discord and navigate to the server of your choice. Unlike the desktop version of Discord, the mobile app records the entire screen.

If you already have the Discord client app, you’re almost ready to go:

How to Improve Discord Stream Quality

There are two ways to change Discord stream settings. Here’s the easiest way:

Click the “Display” button that appears above your avatar and name in the lower left corner of Discord.

Hover over “Stream Quality” and then update your selection. You’ll need Discord Nitro to stream in 1080p or 60fps.

You can also change your screen settings in Discord by hovering over the small window of what you’re streaming above the Discord chat, clicking on settings mode and selecting “Stream Quality.

How to Stop Discord Streaming

To end the screen sharing stream, you need to click the X in the stream section or click the “Screen” button in the lower left corner of the screen. Select “Stop Broadcast” from the available options.

You can also stop the broadcast by hovering over the broadcast window in Discord chat and click the X to stop broadcasting, or by clicking the settings mode and selecting “Stop Broadcast.

To end the live video transmission, click the “Video” button in the lower left corner of the screen.

If a person decides to live stream to your Discord server, you will see a “Live” icon next to their name. To start watching this person’s broadcast, simply hover over the Live button and press it. This will load the stream and notify the streamer as well.

1. Using the Screen Sharing Feature to Stream on Discord

This feature was introduced in 2017 by Discord. Before this feature, Discord was essentially a voice / video calling and SMS app. This feature was introduced to compete with competing streaming sites like Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube. This feature gave users the added option of sharing their screen while they are present on the server’s voice channel. Moreover, to take advantage of this feature, you can use the browser on your computer or download the application from here.

  1. Sign up for Discord in your browser or if you already have an account login.
  2. Download the application or use the site in any browser. Discord in the browser
  3. Join any server voice channel you want to stream on. Discord screen sharing

Recently, Discord also temporarily increased the number of people allowed in the stream from 10 to 50 due to the pandemic.

Using the Go Live Feature to Stream on Discord Server

This Discord streaming feature was introduced last year by Discord to make it easier to stream games to Discord. Go Live works exactly like screen sharing, except that it detects the game running in the background and allows you to stream the game to discord servers. Basically, Go Live’s feature is screen sharing, but with the added benefit of not going through a lot of steps to start streaming. Moreover, there is no limit to having to join any voice channel first.

  1. Sign up for Discord in your browser or if you already have an account login.
  2. Download the app (Go Live does not work on the browser website).
  3. Start the game in the background that you want to stream. In this case, we run Valorant. Discord Go Live for games
  4. The name of the game will appear in the lower left corner, press the icon next to it.
  5. Select the voice channel you want to stream from and press Go Live to start streaming.

Normal streaming quality is 720p at 30fps. However, if you want to stream in better quality, Discord Nitro is a premium feature from Discord. The subscription rate is $ 9.99 per month or $ 99.99 per year.

Originally released in 2015, Discord was a revolutionary way for players to interact with each other, even when located in different locations around the world. Despite already offering enormous value to users as a free app, the platform continues to develop new ways to connect people via voice, messaging, and video.
