What Is Google Stadia?

Stadia is a cloud gaming service operated by Google, requiring no additional PC hardware. But an internet connection and Google Chrome support are necessary.

This service is said to be able to stream video games in resolutions up to 4K at 60 frames per second via numerous Google data centers around the world, provided they have a sufficiently fast internet connection.

You can access this service through the Google Chrome web browser on your computer, on smartphones, smart TVs and tablets, or through Chromecast.

To get to know Google Stadia better, I’d like to show you the benefits of this service and the precautions below.

  • You don’t have to spend a lot of money on hardware. You just need a fairly good Windows 10 (64-bit) desktop or laptop with a good network connection.
  • With this service, you can play one game on different devices. In other words, after you pause one game on your mobile, you can still play it on your TV or other devices.
  • The amazing thing is that Google Stadia is integrated with YouTube. Using this integration, when you see one game video on YouTube, you can directly click on it and access that game.
  • Google Stadia is a cloud gaming platform. Renders games on a remote server instead of the local computer. This means that you don’t need to install games on your computer and worry about low disk space.
  • Surely Google Stadia is only available on Chrome.

Now, encouraged by the above benefits, you may want to know how to use Google Stadia on Windows 10. The following content will show you how.

how to make games run faster thumbnail

This article introduces 11 ways you can make your PC games run faster. It includes four strategies.

While Chrome is a behemoth, not everyone is on board with it. Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer still have a big advantage, and others like Firefox and Opera are still fighting for a good fight. No matter where you fall, Chrome is essential for playing Stadia games on your computer.

Controllers

If you are playing Google Stadia on your computer, you can use the keyboard and mouse. But not every Stadia game is suitable for playing with them. You can use controllers instead. Google Stadia has its own product – the Stadia controller. It’s a great, well-contoured, good-looking controller that feels good in your hand.

But you can use other controllers if you have, such as a DualShock Play Station 4 controller, an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller, or a Switch Pro controller. All of them can be connected via USB and some also support Bluetooth connection. Plus, all of these controllers are Stadia powered, and it’s great that you can use them to play so you don’t need to buy another one.

Play with keyboard and mouse

You can use a mouse and keyboard to play Google Stadia, but it doesn’t work well in some games. Quitting the game can be difficult as your browser will be fully screened while playing the game and not all games have an option to exit the main menu.

However, holding down the “Esc” key for three seconds will get you out of the game. In addition, the F11 keyboard will allow you to exit the full screen and continue playing in the browser.

In addition to games, Google also announced the launch of Stadia games and entertainment. This is a division of Google with the sole purpose of allowing users to design and develop games exclusively for Google’s game streaming platform. We will have to wait to see how practical this is in real-world situations

How to play Stadia on a computer

Stadia can be run via Google Chrome on Mac, PC and Linux computers.

After logging in, you can start playing games right in your browser. Just remember that Stadia requires most games to run in full screen mode and some require access to your computer’s microphone.

You can connect a controller from your browser by clicking the controller icon in the upper right corner, selecting the controller you want to use, and then following the instructions.

How to play Stadia on a TV with a Chromecast Ultra

If you’re a gamer who loves to use the biggest screen in your home, this setup is for you.

To play Stadia on your TV, you’ll need: a TV with an HDMI port, a Google Chromecast Ultra device, and a Stadia controller.

First, connect your Chromecast Ultra to your TV and set it up. The Chromecast Ultra comes with its own Ethernet port – for the best Stadia experience, use this port and an Ethernet cable to connect your Chromecast to your internet router.

Once done, press the Stadia logo on the controller to put it into pairing mode.

A code should appear on the TV screen – it will look like a random combination of buttons on the controller.

Enter the code on your Stadia controller and wait while Chromecast detects the controller. If the connection is successful, Stadia will start up on your TV. If it fails, you will have to re-enter the code.

If you don’t see the connection code on your TV, your Chromecast may not be set to “Ambient Mode”. To fix this:

1. Open the Google Home app on your smartphone and touch the Chromecast Ultra icon.

2. In the upper right corner, tap “Settings”. It can also look like a gear icon.

3. Under “Device Information”, tap “Ambient Mode.”

4. A new screen will appear. Scroll down until you find “Stadia Controller Connection Code” – click “Show” underneath it. The connection code will appear on the TV.

If you’re having trouble connecting your Chromecast to Wi-Fi, the Google Home app can also help. If your controller doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi, you’ll need to use the Stadia app.

You can also cast Stadia to your TV using the Stadia mobile app or the Chrome browser on your computer.

While playing with Chromecast Ultra offers the least flexibility in terms of controller support, Google has suggested that more controllers may support it in the future.

In the meantime, you can buy a Stadia controller for $ 69 or get a Stadia Premiere bundle for $ 100, which includes both the controller and Chromecast Ultra.

While you may have missed the boat in the Founder’s Edition, Google recently announced the release of the Professional Edition. This edition comes with a white controller instead of a blue one and does not include the Buddy Pass. This means no sharing of purchases with friends.

Stadia Games

Note that even while playing Stadia on your computer, you must use the Stadia app or the Google Store to buy the games, or claim them if you’ve already made a purchase. So first you have to get the games you want to play. The list of currently available games includes Shadow of the Tomb Raider, NBA2k20, Destiny 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Mortal Kombat 11, among others.

You can choose to purchase these games individually or get a Stadia Plus subscription (similar to Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus) which will unlock multiple games and add them to your Stadia library.

Many games will be released including Borderlands 3, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. These are just games coming in 2019. Many more will be available on Stadia in 2020 (Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Baldur’s Gate III, Watch Dogs Legion, etc.)

Enjoy Playing Stadia

This is how you play Stadia games in your Chrome browser or mobile app. There are still not many games for the platform, but many of them will be hitting the Stadia game store soon. You can enjoy smooth gameplay on multiple devices, in any room in your home, with a good Wi-Fi signal.

Which Stadia game is your favorite? Is this one of the games available on release day, or are you excited about a brand new title like Cyberpunk 2077 with Keanu Reeves? Tell us in the comments section below!

That’s it! One click is all it takes to play any of the available games. The great thing about Stadia is that it tracks and saves your progress and even transfers it to other platforms when you change the device you use to play Stadia.

Stadia Premiere Edition

While neither the Chomecast Ultra nor the Stadia Controller are required to play Stadia games on your PC, for now, you do need the Premiere Edition. Or, you may be lucky to meet someone who can give you a Buddy Pass.

Our recommendation for Stadia

You have many input options that you can use with Stadia on your computer. For extra precision, you can use the keyboard and mouse, the Stadia controller you have with the Founder or Premiere edition, or other official console controllers. Of course, we recommend the Xbox One controller for your needs with two joysticks.

That said, for many newcomers to the platform, it’s not immediately clear which platforms Stadia can support. So in addition to a solid internet connection – essential with any streaming setup – how can you play Stadia?

Update: Google Stadia Founders Edition sales

Google Stadia’s Founders Edition was so popular it nearly sold out in Europe, and North America isn’t far behind. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to take part in the action.

While you may have missed the boat in the Founder’s Edition, Google recently announced the release of the Professional Edition. This edition comes with a white controller instead of a blue one and does not include the Buddy Pass. This means no sharing of purchases with friends.

You still get the three-month Stadia Pro subscription, though, so it’s not too bad. We do not have the exact release date for this edition yet – we only know that it is “November”.

Depending on where you are located, you can still pre-order the Founder’s Edition, but you need to act fast!

Closing Thoughts…

So you have what we currently know about Google Stadia and what it has to offer. I suppose the most important question to answer is, will Stadia be worth it or not?

This is a really tough question that can be answered without physically using it. Some of the WEPC employees have used similar services over the years and had mostly bad things about them.

Even though internet speeds are becoming more stable and much faster, it will always be difficult to maintain a consistent level of connectivity. Since Stadia is so heavily dependent on it, and gaming is an immersive experience, it’s hard for me to imagine how this service will provide the same level of entertainment that I am currently getting from my PC or game console.

If Google has managed to provide a service that allows users to play 4k, HDR, Ultra graphics games on the average level of PCs and consoles, they have achieved something that is nothing short of pure genius. However, whether this is so has yet to be decided.
