NetherRealm Studios announced in July 2021 that it was ending support for Mortal Kombat 11, citing it “now focusing on the next project.” Many believed that the next project might be Injustice 3, in which the studio traditionally switches between its famous fighting game and the DC Universe studio fighter.

There were even rumors of a possible Marvel brawl, but recent leaks suggested that in fact the next entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise could be the most likely scenario.

Many suspected that Injustice 3 was in its early stages of development and was preparing for the next NetherRealm release, but according to influential high-profile journalist Jeff Grubb, this may not be the case (thanks to VGC).

Speaking of the new Giant Bomb movie, it has been implied that the continued uncertainty surrounding Warner Brothers Games has led to a shift in NetherRealm’s designs.

“This fits in with reality and agrees with what I’ve heard where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense as this is a game they know will make money, sell well… Mortal Kombat 11 was great, it does but if you come out of Mortal Kombat 12, it will also sell and do well, ”Grubb said, speaking on the Giant Bomb.

“At the same time, you don’t need to use any of those Batman or Superman characters that may be licensed if you’re trying to get rid of NetherRealm or sell it to anyone.”

In a recent job posting, NetherRealm Studio states that the studio is looking for a Chief Software Engineer “to drive the next-generation graphics vision for the console for the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series.”

While everyone knows the story by now, an adaptation of the TV show that explored the period has emerged, titled Mortal Kombat: Conquest, with Paolo Montalbán as Kung Lao, Daniel Bernhardt as Siro, and Kristanna Loken as Taja. More importantly, he was surprisingly good for his time.

Faction deaths were also part of the game. Factions are “clans” or “teams” that your player would like to join. There are 4 factions and each faction had its own support for the death toll.

Mortal Kombat 12: 5 Characters That Need to Return

It cannot be denied that Mortal Kombat 11 delivered the goods. It was the semicircle that prompted us to fight against utopia. Although the last line-up still lacked a few familiar faces. Some that many fans noticed almost immediately. So we hope these 5 characters return in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 12.

Reptile Mortal Kombat 12

Think about it: Reptile is an OG in the series – even if he was just a hidden character in the original Mortal Kombat. His power of invisibility and acid-spitting vengeance were huge hits with gamers in the 90s, but he has been heavily disregarded lately. Heck, the poor scaly creature even hired Kano in a 2021 movie.

Stryker Mortal Kombat 12 characters

Kurtis Stryker is the most annoying character around. Looking at his hat from the back makes you want to fend him off for impersonating Fred Durst. Plus, he’s also a cop who is likely to catch other combatants for smoking a bit of green between rounds. Every game needs a character that everyone despises – which is why Stryker would be perfect for that role in Mortal Kombat 12.

Takeda Mortal Kombat 12 characters

Mortal Kombat X was supposed to be about the next generation. Introduced Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, and Takeda. However, as the alleged next Scorpion, he was nowhere to be found in Mortal Kombat 11. Maybe his absence was deliberate so as not to cause confusion with Cole Young, who made his film debut and felt he should be Takeda. If Cole isn’t part of the video game universe in Mortal Kombat 12, Takeda must return.

Quan Chi

Quan Chi

While Shang Tsung will always be an original sorcerer, Quan Chi does not enjoy the respect he deserves. He is responsible for the deaths of Scorpion and his family, and is about as suspicious and ruthless as any politician. Sure, he’ll probably never be the main antagonist in the game, but he doesn’t have a better right hand than this necromancer.

Mileena is. Jade it. Sorry, the real MVP is Tanya. He is one of the best fighters in the series and you never know which side he is playing on. She is called the ultimate traitor for a reason, because no one knows if she can be trusted. She deserves a prominent role in Mortal Kombat 12 – not to work for D’Vorah as in Mortal Kombat X.

Mortal Kombat 12 Will it feature Cole Young

Will It Feature Cole Young?

Considering how Mortal Kombat 11 was still pumping out content in 2021, it’s unlikely that we’ll see a new game in the series for a few years. However, with the reboot movie launch, many fans are wondering if the new main character Cole Young (Lewis Tan) will make an appearance as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 12.

Of course, there are rumors that he could be added as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat 11 closer to the movie’s premiere in April. However, this is unlikely. While Cole is a completely new character in the MK lore, he is set to play the lead role in the movie – with a surprising twist, but you won’t read any spoilers here.

Lewis Tan Cole Young

As a result, it makes sense to portray him as a key character in Mortal Kombat 12. The Aftermath events have left the franchise with something of a blank slate to build on. There is a chance to rewrite MK’s story, with a few additional characters and new scenarios to research. In the case of Cole, it can be set to lead the story into the future.

Of course, this does not mean that every fan will be behind this decision. We’ve all seen how fan expectations can be more brutal than any fatalities; however, the MK series has to evolve here.

The main cast of Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero aren’t going to disappear, but how many times can we see the same story repeat itself over and over again? The Mortal Kombat tournament is about the champions of generations, so isn’t it time for a new player to rise to the occasion?

Lewis Tan teases the role of DC

By introducing a new character like Cole, it gives the series the chance to liven up and move forward. Heck, take a look at Tekken as an example. Jin Kazama and Eddy Gordo are now considered the hottest fighters in the series, but were only introduced in Tekken 3. In the same way, Mortal Kombat has to start looking to the future and integrating someone like Cole into a new race like Cassie. The Cage and Jacqui Briggs.

Of course, Cole’s potential inclusion in future Mortal Kombat video games will largely depend on the character’s success in the film. Hopefully he can keep a bit of his longevity and not suffer the same fate as poor Art Lean from the 1995 movie.

Mortal Kombat 12 Will the live action movie have an impact

The first Mortal Kombat game was created primarily for the console. No arcade releases. The fifth game in the series, Killer Alliance Fighting Styles, is something the MK series hasn’t seen before.

Mortal Kombat 3

Original platform: Arcade

The third installment, Mortal Kombat 3, departs from the tournament-style plot, with the heroes fighting Shao Kahn instead.

One of the new features of the game was the ability to run. Coupled with the gear meter, this gave players the ability to run up to players to complete combos.

Along with the launch button, “chain combos” were introduced into the game, with prefixes that allowed players to make big combos.

The Kombat code, the ability to input and unlock characters and modify the game, appeared in Mortal Kombat 3. Another interesting feature is the ability to pierce your opponent through the “ceiling” and finally to the next level!

Mortal Kombat 4

Cover character: Goro

Original platform: Arcade

Mortal Kombat 4 is the first game in the series to use 3D graphics. This was something new for the 2D fighter that will be disappearing later in the series.

New to the series were items and weapons that players could pick up during combat. Players could pick up, drop, and use weapons on opponents.

MK4 also added a “Maximum Damage” cap to combo moves, which was also new to the series. Players who rolled out absurd combinations would spoil them if the combination limit was too high. The Babilities and Friendship Kills have been removed from this game.

Again, we’ve covered this story before (in a great article you really should read), but Jax has lost his hands in different ways over the years in different Mortal Kombat games, timelines, and adaptations.

The “Arcana” Explanation

Why do characters in Mortal Kombat games have special powers? The explanations of the plot vary. Some were born with these powers, while others acquired them through mechanical upgrades or gifts from the gods. Mostly, however, empowering characters was just a way to spice up the special moves of the original arcade game.

In one of the biggest deviations from the games, the MK movie suggests that Earthrealm warriors must unlock the “Arcana” ability within themselves. We’re going to go over some more detailed examples of this explanation, which are very different from the games, but it’s worth highlighting the fact that the idea of Earth Kingdom warriors needing to unlock the Arcana within them has never been mentioned in the Games. This is a very “midi-chlorate” way to approach the whole idea.

Sonya Blade’s Powers

Again, we could spend a good deal of time talking about the many ways the Arcana concept transforms the video game versions of Mortal Kombat’s greatest characters, but the Sonya Blade is one of the most interesting and notable examples of such a deviation. As those who have seen the MK movie know, Sonya gets her powers when she kills Kano, becomes one of the tournament’s chosen fighters, and unlocks her Acan skill.

How did she get these skills in the game? She’s a bit muddy at first, but later entries in the series suggest that her abilities are based on mechanical creations rather than innate power. The idea that Sonya has a device attached to her arms that allows her to fire bullets really seemed to be part of trying to explain her otherwise inexplicable abilities in the original games, but it was a pretty effective way to do so.

There are actually two endings in this story expansion for Mortal Kombat 11, depending on whether you choose to fight Kronika as Liu Kang or Shang Tsung.

Mortal Kombat 11 DLCs To Be Discontinued

After more than two years of supporting Mortal Kombat 11, the DLC for the game, including characters; the developers finally threw the towel on the popular game.

In their latest tweet, NetherRealm Studios put an end to all rumors by confirming that the DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is now over.

Since there has been a lot of noise around this news for a long time, the latest announcement was not too surprising.

But the end of future DLCs for Mortal Kombat 11 means its roster won’t expand beyond the 37 characters that are already available.

The last expansion we got for Mortal Kombat 11 is Aftermath, followed by the Kombat 2 Pack that came with the Ultimate Edition last year.

While the era of this popular PC and console fighting game is over, there is still another piece of good news for gamers.

A new game in the works

NetherRealm Studios mentioned in a tweet that they are working on their next project so we have one more new game to look forward to.

As of now, we don’t have an official name or any other details for this new game. In fact, we’re not even sure this new project is related to Mortal Kombat at all.

And it will probably be months, maybe a year, before we hear more about it. But at this point, all we can do is wait to hear more from the developer.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch for those who still want to enjoy the game.

Stepping into the Cage

Raiden tells Cole, Sonya Blade, Jax and Liu Kang that they need to track down new heroes.

“Who’s first?” says Cole.

At the last moment of the movie, he goes to Hollywood to find Johnny Cage, and we see a poster for the movie Citizen Cage: Fight for your Rights (which certainly sounds like Oscar material to me). The actor and martial artist is not in the poster – because he hasn’t been cast yet – but we can see his tacky belt, “Cage.

Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 11

Johnny is one of the main recurring characters in the game franchise and has appeared in most entries since the original. He played a huge role in the 1995 movie but didn’t appear in the 2021 movie as he chews the scenery a little too much like Kano, according to producer Todd Garner.

“The reason we stopped Johnny Cage is because he’s a very selfish guy. He is a scoundrel. Is funny. It’s bigger than life… and so is Kano, ”Garner said in the March press conference, or will we just have two guys competing to laugh and outsmart ourselves in this movie? How about stopping Johnny Cage?'”

Since Kano is killed with a gnome at his side, it won’t be a problem if this movie is a sequel. Johnny married Sonya in the games, and their daughter Cassie joined the roster in 2015’s Mortal Kombat X.

Return to Kombat?

Despite all this setup, the sequel has yet to be confirmed – it will depend on the success of this movie. During a March press event, Garner expressed his hope that people would love it enough to bring more of the wonderfully intricate gaming knowledge to the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe style.

In Shang Tsung games, he is the only first villain our heroes face. He works for the ruler of Outworld, Shao Kahn, who is the Emperor of Palpatine for Darth Vader Shang Tsung. Shao Kahn isn’t even mentioned in the new movie, only seen in mural and statue form, so there is some flexibility in how they can implement it.

In addition to the baddies from Outworld, many other kingdoms and villains have appeared throughout the series’ 29-year history. If this movie turns out well, you’d better be prepared to put your power to the test in another huge cinematic universe.
