The most important specification to consider when choosing a laptop is its performance. This determines which applications can launch and how quickly it can launch them.

What Brand Is Your Laptop?

One of the most important things that will affect the price of your laptop is its name. It will also adapt depending on the model you have. Older laptops aren’t selling very much these days, but if they’re still in good shape, you’ll likely always get a fair price.

Now that we have that provision, let’s take a look at the different brands and what they’re selling for. As you can see in the survey below, I have compiled the prices of your laptops by brand. However, the condition of your machine will affect its value and will be worth less than the value you see in the next paragraphs if damage occurs. In each section, I’ll explain why every laptop sells better or cheaper based on my research.

Check The Condition

If your laptop has dents, bruises, flags, bubbles, and other damage, your laptop’s price has probably dropped a bit. But don’t worry, it might be worth it. But you might consider selling it for scrap, which unfortunately wouldn’t be a lot of money, but better than nothing if your machine won’t turn on.

If you want to get the most out of your laptop, there are a few things you can do to keep it safe and clean. Try to remove any stains, defects, or other damage from your laptop before trying to sell it. You might be shocked at how perfect cleaning your old laptop can do.

To find out how much you can sell your HP laptop, you need to know a little about your laptop. This is especially true if you plan to sell it. The actual value of your HP laptop will mainly depend on its condition, age and model.

Things to look at before buying an HP laptop in Nigeria

With so many models and types on the market, you may experience some confusion when purchasing a laptop. However, there are several factors to consider when purchasing an HP laptop in Nigeria. These factors include weight, screen size, aspect ratio, CPU, RAM, hard drive, operating system and additional ports, hardware, and more.

Weight: Most people buy laptops because of their portability as weight is an important factor for them. For those who want something very lightweight, ultrabooks and netbooks are a good option, although they may not offer more advanced users the features they need. Lightweight laptops weighing 3 to 4 pounds have more features than netbooks, but are not quite as light.

Screen size: The reality of the screen is another factor that affects the weight and size of your computer. Small ultraportable devices typically have a screen size of 13 inches or less. Laptops with small screens can weigh as little as 2 pounds, which is definitely a big advantage for those who need to take their laptops everywhere. Graphic designers want a large screen laptop to show customers their work, and gamers want a large screen so they can see all the action.

Processor: The processor serves as the main engine of the laptop. Laptop processors have less capacity and power because that’s the part that consumes a lot of battery life. You should consider what processor speed you need to work at.

RAM: RAM, or random access memory, is a type of temporary storage that your computer uses to multitask. The more RAM a laptop has, the more tasks it can perform simultaneously without freezing. You can upgrade your laptop’s RAM yourself by purchasing from the manufacturer or third-party sources. It is important to check the maximum capacity when purchasing a laptop. Motherboards have a limited number of RAM slots; please consider this before purchasing.

Hard Drive: As for hard drives, you may need to check both capacity and speed. While the capacity allows you to store huge amounts of photos, videos and songs, the speed ensures fast recording and access to data. Manufacturers indicate the speed of the hard drive in revolutions per minute or revolutions per minute, which refers to the speed at which the spindle of the disk rotates. Basically, the more revolutions per minute, the faster the drive.

Operating System: While many people may debate which operating system is better, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. More people are using Windows environments, especially in corporate settings, and this operating system supports more types of hardware and software. Whichever you choose, make sure you have the latest versions as most new software won’t work on older operating systems.

Additional Hardware and Ports: Ports and additional hardware increase the weight and circumference of laptops. Most ultrabooks and netbooks forgo optical drives, but offer a separate Super drive. You should consider how many peripherals you need to connect simultaneously, as well as the speed of the USB port. For those who absolutely need to connect their laptops to another display or projector, a VGA, DVI, or even HDMI port is essential.

The condition of your laptop relates to its condition, both inside and out. This means you need to identify where your laptop fits the spectrum, from brand new to poor condition. The condition of your laptop will have an impact on what your laptop is worth.

Why Is The Value Of Your Laptop Important

Knowing how much your laptop is really worth can help you decide if it’s worth having it repaired or buying a new one. If you have a laptop for business like the HP Elitebook 850 G6 Intel Core i7 laptop online, you can get good value for such high-end business PCs.

The value of your laptop will also help you figure out if it was worth the investment. If it did not meet your expectations, opt for a completely different model in the future.

One Comfortable Keyboard

The EliteBook 840’s illuminated keyboard and touchpad are extremely comfortable. HP frustratingly continues to place the cursor arrow keys in a row, rather than the more intuitive inverted T, but other than that, I find the keyboard switches to be fairly stable, and the touchpad provides a satisfyingly solid clicking experience. The laptop also has a pointing stick mounted in the keyboard, but I find it much less accurate than the red TrackPoint on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

The keyboard function row contains the usual brightness and sound controls. There’s also a handy microphone mute button, as well as a wildcard key (F12) that you can customize to launch a file, application, or website of your choice.

Two speaker grilles surround the HP keyboard, offering loud sound but rather weak bass. You can easily hear the person on the other side of the conference call, but listening to music or watching videos may prove to be less than satisfying. It’s a shame as many people use business laptops for more than just work.

You’ll find tons of ports on the sides of the EliteBook 840. There are two USB-C ports, compared to the previous generation, and you can use them both to charge your laptop and to connect Thunderbolt 3 peripherals. There are also two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, a headphone / combo jack microphone and a full-size HDMI port. The right edge of the laptop also includes a nano SIM tray for an optional LTE modem that works with AT&T or Verizon. LTE-equipped versions of the EliteBook 840 also support eSIM.

Another optional wireless connectivity includes an NFC sensor for transferring data to and from Android devices. There is also an optional smart card reader that some IT departments issue to their users for added security. Meanwhile, standard wireless connections include Wi-Fi 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) and Bluetooth 5.

With a three-year warranty, the EliteBook 840 is better supported than most consumer laptops, which typically come with a one-year warranty. Longer warranty periods are the norm for premium laptops, so it’s nice to see an HP including one here, though it’s undoubtedly part of the list price. Many wholesale customers are likely to have access to customized service contracts and pricing that are not publicly available.

Testing the EliteBook 840 G7: A Productivity Powerhouse

With six processor cores, the EliteBook’s Core i7 processor enables the core productivity tasks for which the laptop is designed to run fast. I have never experienced lag or slowdown while browsing the web and installing applications, in many cases simultaneously. However, I have often heard the cooling fan go up even when no applications were open. HP says it has redesigned the temperature management system on the EliteBook 840 to reduce fan noise, but it’s definitely still noticeable.

In most of our benchmarks, the EliteBook 840 showed similar performance, outperforming the quad-core processors in the similarly priced Dell Latitude 7410 and Latitude 9410 2-in-1 versions. It also outperformed the Core i5 on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, although this machine is slightly cheaper in the 400 900 version we tested. However, the EliteBook is no match for business laptops powered by the latest AMD Ryzen Pro processors. Even the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U midrange in the recently tested Lenovo ThinkPad X13 offers better performance in a laptop half the price of the EliteBook 840. The configurations of each of these systems can be seen in the chart below.

As with some ThinkPad models, the EliteBook 800 series is also available with Ryzen Pro processors instead of Intel chips. Companies that don’t need Intel-specific features and are looking for the best computing performance available may want to look for the EliteBook 845 with a Ryzen Pro processor, whose other features are mostly identical to the EliteBook 840. (See how we test laptops.)

Storage, Content Creation, and CPU Tests

Our main benchmarks are PCMark 10 and PCMark 8, which are holistic performance packages developed by PC performance test specialists from UL (formerly Futuremark). The PCMark 10 test we run simulates various real-world workflows and content creation. We use it to evaluate the overall system performance for office tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet copying, web browsing and video conferencing. The test produces a proprietary numerical score; higher numbers are better. The advantage of the ThinkPad X13 is immediately visible here, as the EliteBook 840 and other systems are grouped closer together by a few hundred points lower. However, keep in mind that a value above 4,000 in this test usually indicates excellent performance.

Meanwhile, PCMark 8 has a memory subtest we use to judge the speed of the system boot drive. This result is also a proprietary numeric result; again, higher numbers are better. We expect all SSD systems to achieve excellent results in this test of around 5000, and this is certainly the case here.

Next comes the Maxon Cinebench R15 CPU-loading test that is fully multi-threaded to take advantage of all available CPU cores and threads. Cinebench puts emphasis on the CPU, not the GPU, to render a complex image. The result is a proprietary score that indicates the suitability of the computer for CPU-intensive workloads. It shows the slight advantage of the EliteBook 840 over the Latitude and X1 Carbon systems, while the X13 is clearly in a different league.

These results are very close to our Handbrake Video Editing Test, another tough, multi-threaded workout that is heavily CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. We put a stopwatch in it on test systems that transcode a standard 12-minute 4K video clip into a 1080p MP4 file. It’s a timed test and lower scores are better.

Key specs to look for in an HP laptop

HP has many great choices when it comes to laptops. However, it is important to understand the specifications when choosing a model. The specs aren’t as intimidating as they seem. Once you understand the basics of a laptop, you should be able to understand what to look for.

When considering a laptop, we need to understand four basic specifications: performance, screen, battery, and aspect ratio. Here’s everything you need to know about these specs:

The most important specification to consider when choosing a laptop is its performance. This determines which applications can launch and how quickly it can launch them.

A laptop’s performance depends on many factors, the most important of which are its CPU (or processor), graphics processing unit (or GPU), amount of RAM, and the amount and type of internal memory it has. Check below for a quick overview of each:
