Undertale for Windows
Undertale is a crazy and fantastic game that exploded on the scene in 2015 and is now enjoying a huge cult following. In short, it is a linear RPG (Role Playing Game) with retro graphics set in the underground world of people and monsters. It is not as whimsical as Earthbound, nor as graphically complex as Lunar. Nevertheless, if you are looking for some old school entertainment on a rainy (or sunny) day, take a trip to the strange and wonderful world of Undertale. A whole world of games created by developer Toby Fox himself, Undertale is a friendly RPG where no one has to die. ” The beloved independent game is known for its nostalgic atmosphere and legendary soundtrack. The jewel in Undertale’s crown, however, is its quintessential humor and strangely adorable monster characters. Fighting game, where mercy is encouraged, and you choose to kill or spare your enemies. No spoiler alert: read on to get an overview of the design, mechanics, and overall feel of the game. Just download Undertale and get ready for battle (or be friends) on your way to the surface.
Undertale: Getting under the skin of the indie classic
Travel to the times of supercomputers, dinosaurs, and Alice and Wonderland. Struggling? Drop in some classic arcade games and think about Lord of the Rings. If none of this stands out with an easy picture, you are not alone. Undertale is like no other place on Earth. It is literally the otherworldly underbelly of human souls and trapped monsters. The introduction to Undertale will knock you off your feet. It tells the story of the war between monsters and humans, culminating in monsters trapped underground. The beauty of going back to clean and simple graphics is that it absorbs you instantly. Writing aloud in white on a black screen is extremely effective. You choose the name of your “Fallen Man” (no keyboard needed, but it’s built into the code because you’ll be in control of the keyboard throughout the game). If you are bored at first with the soft start (sorry to step on Undertale fans’ fingers), rest assured: a strange and wonderful will happen.
Your first interaction with the character “Flowey” will break your expectations and immerse you in the world of Undertale. This early dialogue basically sums up what’s amazing about the game. The three-dimensional graphics have been removed, the core mechanics, but Undertale sticks to tightly quirky, unpredictable, and extremely fun characters. You will love them, but you will probably choose to kill them. Undertale is short and sweet, you can go one of the three routes (Pacifist, Neutral or Genocide) in one day. Like in a classic novel or a killer movie, the characters have a depth as deep as the world itself. Your weird Freudian relationship with Toriel, the mom-like monster who cluck and fuss over you (later trapping you in an awesome twist on the script) gives the game a weird familiar vibe’.
If your gaming boat is quirky, retro and weird, you’ll love Undertale. What’s not to love?
Risking offense to the entire fanbase of this iconic classic, one of the game’s potential downsides is that the characters evolve too quickly. The game revolves around bizarre relationships with hostile monsters. It’s a killer approach, but it’s happening too fast. Toriel immediately becomes a picky mom instead of slowly becoming a mother. This can risk kicking out new players. Another drawback I encountered on my computer was the problem with opening the combat menu with the C key.
What are you doing? Are you looking for secrets? Don’t put your nose where it shouldn’t. Or, you can learn something you DON’T like. Hee hee hee. – Undertale home page, in the HTML of the page.

Undertale is a role-playing game that uses a lot of the traditional mechanics usually found in role-playing games, but with a lot of differences.
The combat system in Undertale is turn-based and seems to be heavily inspired by bullet-hekler games – most notably the Touhou series – where the protagonist’s SOUL, represented by a red heart, must dodge enemy attacks. As the game progresses, new elements are introduced, such as colored obstacles that require the soul to stay still or move around them, and some battles (including some boss battles) that change the way you control your heart. During a player’s turn, they have the opportunity to fight an opponent (with quick entry), perform actions that can change the opponent’s mood, use items, and show mercy by sparing the enemy, ending the fight if the appropriate actions are to be used. Killing an enemy will reward EXP and LV, but neither will be awarded.
The player, represented by the red heart icon, dodges enemy attacks
the world mainly consists of puzzles that the player has to solve in order to proceed. Monster battles can also be viewed as puzzles, requiring the right set of actions to solve the fight peacefully. However, if the player chooses to murder every monster encountered, almost all puzzles will be disabled and the player must grind to proceed. Unlike traditional RPGs, grinding (in a neutral setting) and stepping back aren’t mandatory, and there are hardly any side-quests in the game.
The game is also known for witty and humorous dialogues, as well as drastic changes based on the player’s actions and the occasional breaking of the fourth wall. While killing / saving makes significant changes to dialogue, the most notable change is the manipulation of the SAVE function in the game, particularly exiting or resetting the game: almost every main character has meta-knowledge, remembering actions the player has performed in previous games.
Main Story
Long ago, two races ruled the Earth: Humans and Monsters. One day, war broke out between the two races, and after a long series of battles, the people won. The greatest of their mages locked the monsters in the Underworld with a magical barrier. However, this barrier is not perfect.
Years after the war, in 201X, a human child climbs Mount Ebott for his own mysterious reason. It is said that those who climb the mountain never come back. The child discovers a huge hole overhead and falls into it. Then the story begins.
The hero begins his adventure in the Ruins and soon meets Flowey, a sadistic flower who tries to kill the main character for his own entertainment. He is stopped by a mother monster named Toriel, who teaches the baby how to solve puzzles and conflict in the underworld. After fighting her with the boss, she allows the child to exit the Ruins, ending the demo.
In Ruins, Froggit who mentioned pressing the “F4” key to go full screen was replaced by Froggit who mentions that the border can be changed in the settings menu in the main menu.
Walkthrough
This extremely detailed, ultimate Undertale guide is divided into three main sections due to the ability to complete the Pacifist Passage (where you can’t kill a single enemy – we’re giving you the right dialogue options to exit the battle) and Genocide Walkthrough (You have to kill every enemy we say Those about the location of all hidden enemies and we provide deep boss strategy).
Before the game starts, a short series of cutscenes will explain the history of the world you are about to enter. These scenes tell of a war between humans and monsters in which monsters were forced to live in the Underworld beneath the Earth’s surface. It will end with images of a child falling into a deep hole that leads to the aforementioned world.
It just so happens that this baby is you, so give yourself a name and exit the room on the right to start your adventure. (on PC you use arrows, not WASD to move around).
Walkthrough Sections
There are many ways to play Undertale to get different sections. While the main walk may be the same for each ending, we have created guides to help you achieve them all.
This gameplay is achieved by playing the game without worrying about whether and how many characters you will kill. To achieve this ending, make sure you kill at least one character, but not all of them, otherwise you will get the genocide ending.
((Healthy Dog’s Warning: The game contains images that may be harmful to players with photosensitive epilepsy or the like. Welcome to UNDERTALE. In this RPG game you control a man who falls underground into the world of monsters. Now you must find a way out or stay trapped forever.

First, let me say this game is NOT “satanic” or “disturbing”.
The only thing CLOSE to The Disturbing is the final boss fight on the neutral and pacifist paths.
Good news: 5/5
The main message of the game is that all conflicts can be resolved non-violently and that the right thing to do at all times. The games also have many themes of difference, loss, and anger (Flowey).
Good role models: 4/5
There are many characters that represent certain feelings or emotions.
Undyne: Determination (pun unintended)
Papyrus: happiness and stupidity.
Sans: Humor, Defensive, and also provides a spawn pattern for his little brother. Although Sans is lazy and at times lethargic, he cares deeply for his brother.
Alphys: Love, Help, Inventor (And also Alphys IS a lesbian to Undyne, Not that there’s something wrong with that.
Flowey: Anger and loneliness.
Toriel: Care and protection
ASGORE: Loneliness, as well as care and protection, A sense of loss.
Swearing and bad language: 2/5
Undyne and Sans (on the genocide route) utter one curse each in their boss fights, for example:
Hell (Sans)
Damn (Undyne)
And Flowey calls the player Frisk an Idiot MANY times.
Sexual and similar content: 1/5
On the True Pacifist Path, you go on a “date” (which is only there for comedy purposes, so nothing sexual happens) with Alphys, and start playing roles (to help Alphys get the courage to confess her love for Undyne) as Undyne, I you have the option to act as Undyne and say “And then Undyne will kiss you” to Alphys, and Alphys gets angry and shouts “UNDYNE! Though it’s just a role play and it doesn’t exactly happen in this scene. (Though they kiss in the end credits, it’s just a peck on the cheek.)
Some references to sex that will go through children’s heads, such as “dating” Sans’ younger brother Papyrus. If you ask Papyrus that you want a date in his room, he replies:
“Sure, let’s go to my room and do what people are doing in the other dating room!”
(All they do is chat and you have to answer questions and eat spaghetti, Nothing sexual.)
Violence and fear: 3/5
One of the last bosses of the game (Omega / Photoshop Flowey) is a bit disturbing and WILL be dreaming some immature kids. There is also a “Real Lab” which has scary and disturbing monsters mixed together, and there is a weird white figure that puts you to bed out of nowhere, but otherwise just has the overall AMAZING vibe.
While you have a choice: kill, kill and kill, the emphasis is on pacifism, and if you kill every enemy you will be punished with horror and a corrupted file. Which is called the LEGACY ROUTE. It sucks and it’s really hard.
Drinking, drugs and smoking: 1/5
There is a pub in Snowdin where some characters appear to be drunk, but there is no real beer or alcohol in the pub.
You can find dog treats on the floor and interacting with them will tell you
“Looks like SOMEONE smoked dog treats.”
The food vendor, Burgerpants, smokes a cigar.
“Cig” and “Cigar” are hidden in the search for words that do not need to be completed to pass through the area.
Overall rating, 11/10, will play for the eleventh time and this is a GREAT game.
It also has BEAUTIFUL and sometimes weird and weird music and the song “Fallen Down (Reprise)” made me cry every time it was played. Thanks for reading my review.
WITH BACKLIGHT. (I know it’s a long talk about it)
The variables have been renamed demon, demonb, demonc, and demond. Interestingly, the first line of the message in version 1.00 is still present with its associated variable, but has been moved to line 2436 (among the messages used to select special names).

What else can I say? Undertale is spectacular, even three years later. It is a game that deserves all the praise it receives, and a game that people who love it will remember for a long, long time. I cannot express how glad I am to have had the opportunity to experience it again on the Switch.
One of the most original modern JRPG games of all time, beat in a fraction of the time. Once you’ve dealt with the primitive aesthetics, you’ll quickly realize why everyone was so captivated by Toby Fox’s work.
If you haven’t played Undertale before, you’ll want to pick this version of Switch to experience what everyone is talking about for themselves. [Issue # 36 – November / December 2018, p. 17]
Undertale is a brilliant and intelligently designed game that has a good understanding of what makes a good RPG work; so much so that it can raise expectations and deliver what is almost a satire of the genre. It’s been a long time since we played the game that surprises so often and in so many unique ways, and even if it doesn’t look like much, Undertale has a lot more to do below the surface. Well-written characters, genre-bending combat system and a solid soundtrack make it an easy recommendation, especially for RPG lovers. Do yourself a favor and download this file.
By reviewing today’s experience, it’s easy to see why Undertale was a topic of conversation in the city two years ago. It’s not very long gameplay, but it’s an impressive 7+ hours. A slow burning that starts off cute but in the last few hours develops to absolutely exciting. I’m not sure if the pope has already started playing, but he would have hurt himself if he hadn’t.
Toby Fox’s work is not just an anecdote: it is well thought out. It hides something that connects directly or indirectly to anyone who has spent too much time with a gamepad in hand.

The story is deep and sad and it really engages you and makes me cry like a baby. The morality system works amazing and the soundtrack is the best any game has to offer. The characters have charm, character and personality, and do not appear to be made by a computer. The graphics, however, say otherwise. They suck! A bit of a lack of gameplay, but the Hellball Battle system was fine.
Overall, if you like emotional games, games where choices REALLY matter, games with amazing music, games that have a huge story, this one is a hit. I really enjoyed this game. Far ago it’s not perfect, but it’s worth playing. Now there’s not much to say, which hasn’t already been said in terms of praise for this game, so I’ll just stick with the parts that I don’t like about this review. Also, as heads-up, I was playing the Switch version of the game. SO, Undertale is almost an internet legend at this point, and I can understand why. Its plot and characters are fun and surprisingly well written. HOWEVER, my main problems lie with the fighting and genocide in the game. The combat is pretty solid overall, and I really like the hell-ball aspect, but the real problem is so once you know what to do and how to do it, the fight gets really boring and hopeless. The situation is only made worse by genocide in a game where you kill everything. Now the genocide rush is super cool in concept, but in execution, it’s a nightmare. Since you are committing, you know, genocide, your enemy encounter rate drops sharply, leaving you to just wander for literally five minutes doing nothing until you find an enemy to fight. Moreover, the difficulty increases once you get to Sans, it is actually crazy. I understand that’s it, but after many hours spent in one fight, I checked it out. … Increase Now the genocide rush is super cool in concept, but in execution, it’s a nightmare. Mettaton EX Battle Essay
Mettaton EX has an “essay” question where you can enter text and comment on it. Unfortunately, typing “x” or “z” ends the essay, unless you hold down the CTRL key, leaving some words (most transitions) impossible to type. This has been corrected in the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo Switch versions of the game as they use an on-screen keyboard.
The following words cannot be summoned:
- sexy
- foxy
- tantalism (includes both “tempting” and “tempting”)
Naming the Fallen Human
On PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions of the game, typing “Gaster” will crash, not intentionally restarting the game.
Version Differences
On Windows and console versions, the monitor in Alphys Lab tracks your movements. However, this is only a static image on OS X and Linux versions. The static monitor image is still in the Windows version files, unused.

1.001 patch
- A visual solution has been added to the piano puzzle for the benefit of deaf, deaf or simply insecure players.
- Changed and added the dialogue for the NPC “Clam Girl” in Waterfall.
- The sound effect of grandpasemi.ogg has been renamed grandpatemi and intended for Temmie if you refuse to give her Tem Flakes.
- Various layout changes have been made to try and break the ‘Lab Slope’ glitch. It didn’t quite work.
- Alphys’ lab bathroom sign has been moved from the right side of the door to the left to fix the bug described above.
- A new dialogue has been added for Burgerpants featuring Nice Cream Man.
- Sans’ pre-fight text advancement has been slightly changed. Now it says the short version when you survive an opening attack three times, not after being defeated once and the player will reload to fight him again.
- A dialogue has been added to the Annoying Dog’s secret room, further developing the “patch” which is reportedly needed before the Dog can be fought.
- As described above, the warnings “Don’t break the game, data administrators” have been changed as they are no longer needed.
- The Gaster fun setting now works without having to manually edit the .ini file first.
- The Check in Battle option no longer shows the actual stats used by the game code, instead it displays arbitrary numbers or silly messages.
- The original version of the game had a serious oversight that allowed the player to reach a True Pacifist ending by having a non-zero EXP amount (by reloading on a neutral route where no monsters were killed, killing some monsters in the core), then I’m going to pick up Undyne’s letter).
- The extremely large space between Asgore and Monster Kid in the final version of the menu screen has been shortened.
- Removed (possibly) the debugging feature that was causing Undyne and Alphys to start animating kissing early in the cutscene leading to a fight with Asriel after pressing the spacebar.
- Fixed various graphical bugs and typos.
Later, the patch “1.001v1” was released. This is a Steam Compatibility Update. Only one thing has changed; entering “Gaster” as the name of a fallen human will reset the game as soon as you type it. In the previous version, it only does this if you confirm the name.
Linux patch
The Linux version of the game is identical to version 1.001, but includes a fix where pressing the Z key while pressing the Enter key did not register the Z input.
Console Versions
The PS4 version added trophies.
Full-Screen Froggit
In Ruins, Froggit who mentioned pressing the “F4” key to go full screen was replaced by Froggit who mentions that the border can be changed in the settings menu in the main menu.
