After installing Unity, you’ll want to open the program and start a new project. Once that’s done, look at the top of the screen. Here you will see VRChat SDK which will open a drop down menu when clicked on.

Fix 1: Reset your avatar to fix VRChat crashing
If you are still able to access the game, you can press Ctrl + (slash under Backspace) to reset your avatar to its defaults. In most cases, VRChat crashing problem could simply be caused by avatar issues.
You can also go to the official website of VRChat. Log in and go to the Avatars tab and select Reset to Default Avatar.
Fix 2: Verify your game files
If VRChat is crashing while other games are running fine, it may be due to corrupted game files. Try to verify the VRchat game files on Steam:
- Go to the library.
- Right-click on VRChat and select Properties.
- Select the Local Files tab and click Check Game Cache Integrity.
Fix 3: Update your GPU drivers
For gamers, the GPU driver plays a significant role in improving game performance and providing a great gaming experience. If your graphics driver is outdated or damaged, you will stumble upon various game issues such as game crashes or non-starting, and in specific case – VRChat crash.
There are two ways to update your drivers:
Option 1 – Manual – To update drivers this way, you will need some computer skills and patience as you will need to find the correct driver online, download it and install it step by step.
Option 2 – Automatic (recommended) – This is the quickest and easiest option. A few mouse clicks are all it takes – it’s easy, even if you are new to the computer.
Option 1: Update your graphics driver manually
Graphics card manufacturers such as NVIDIA and AMD keep releasing new drivers to fix bugs and improve performance so you can always download the latest driver from their official website.
After you’ve downloaded the correct drivers for your system, double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. Then, don’t forget to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Option 2: Update your graphics driver automatically
If you don’t have the time, patience, or computer skills to manually update your graphics driver, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the appropriate drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system is running on your computer, you don’t have to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t have to worry about making a mistake during installation.
Drivers can be updated automatically using the FREE or Pro Driver Easy version. But in the Pro version, it only takes 2 clicks:
1. Download and install Driver Easy.
2. Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will scan your computer and detect driver problems.
3. Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all missing or outdated drivers on your system (this requires the Pro version – you will be prompted to update after clicking Update All. You will receive full support and a 30-day money-back guarantee.)
If you want to play the desktop version of VRChat on your Quest device, your only option is to run the game on a VR-enabled PC and connect it via a connecting cable or a virtual desktop. The game runs on your PC and the Quest works like a headset. The easiest way to do this is to use the Steam VRChat and SteamVR versions.

How to Play VRChat on Quest or Quest 2
VRChat plays the same game on Quest and Quest 2 as it does on PC, except you can’t visit PC-only worlds or use PC-only avatars. The interface is the same, the controls are the same, and you can even meet and interact with PC players.
To help you get started, we’ll go over the basic controls, show you how to find a custom avatar that works with the Quest version, and find new worlds to visit. You don’t need to follow all of these steps, but it will help you get the game started.
Search for VRChat in the Quest Store and download it if you haven’t already. It’s a free download.
Log in with your VRChat or Oculus account.
Choose your starting avatar and complete the initial setup process.
In the starting area, walk over to the avatar stand if you want to swap avatars.
Select an avatar compatible with the quest. Task-compatible avatars are marked with a blue and green PC / Task icon.
If you don’t see an avatar you like, open the menu and search for a world.
To find avatar worlds, enter an avatar.
Choose a world and go there.
During the game, you can see players who look like floating robots. These players are using avatars that are not compatible with the Quest, so you see a hovering robot instead.
Look for an avatar you like.
What Are the Limitations of VRChat on Quest?
The two main limitations of VRChat in Expedition are that you cannot view avatars or visit worlds that are not optimized for the Quest. If you see an avatar or world that doesn’t have the PC / Quest logo, you can’t use or visit it.
When you meet a player who only uses an avatar for PC, they will look like a robot with no legs floating in the air and have a small PC logo on their chest. You can still talk and interact with them, but you won’t see their avatar.
When you visit the PC / Quest world, you will get the Quest world version. PC gamers typically see more detailed models and textures, different and better particle effects, and more, while you get to see a more basic version of the world. However, the basics remain the same, and you can watch and chat with PC players even if you see slightly different versions of the world.
Overall, the Quest version is less visually detailed than the PC version. Shadows are flatter or nonexistent, models are less complex, textures are poorer, and so on. The advantage is that the game performs quite well despite the Quest’s low specs, and in some cases it performs even better than the PC version on weaker hardware.
If all of the above fixes are unsuccessful, you may need to check your PC for corrupted system files. Your VRChat may be sharing the same DLL file with Windows and the game will not load. There are two ways to repair system files:
Fix 2: Try some special launch options
Doing this should give you a chance to orientate and get your boundaries without lag and reduce my login hassle, since I started doing this, I’ve had far fewer issues.
- Go to your Steam library, then right-click on VRChat and select Properties.
- Click Set Launch Options.
- Add one of the following lines:
- vrchat: // launch? id = wrld_1a6f881b-fdd0-4551-af2c-6ef8e16577f6
(This will load you into the Dungeon of Avatar Zarniwoop) - vrchat: // launch? id = wrld_d0b62423-fd59-48f7-9e4b-e6fece81b7ed
(OziCom Hyperdimension) - vrchat: // launch? id = wrld_69ab9cdf-5436-46bd-98b5-714837a53b4f
(X1 City Seisoken) - To enter another world, you just need to change the world ID accordingly.

Fix 3: Update your graphics driver
The graphics driver is very important to gamers as it can have a big impact on the gaming experience. If your graphics driver is outdated or damaged, you will face various kinds of problems with the game, such as not loading or VRChat crashing. To fix this, you can update your graphics driver.
Download the appropriate graphics driver for your system, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. Then, don’t forget to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
The VRChat crash problem can also be caused by firewall blocking, so you need to allow your VRChat to run Windows firewall and any third-party antivirus applications installed.
Adding friends in VRChat
While you are here, you will undoubtedly meet people you like. To add a specific player to your Friends List, open the Quick Menu, select the player, press the trigger, then select Friend. If the player doesn’t leave you alone, you can also follow the same route, but click Block instead of Friend.
To see incoming friend requests and see your friends, open the Quick menu and select Social from the top row of options. If you can see the chat bubble with an exclamation mark in the HUD, it means you’ve received a friend request or you’ve been invited to a friend who’s already spending time on VRChat somewhere.
Visiting different worlds in VRChat
When you first enter VRChat, you will be introduced to the Hub, the central meeting place for all players. The Hub has a limit of 16 people, after which a new Hub is created to accommodate more. If you find yourself in a center where no one else is around, wait a few minutes for more to appear.
To visit a different world, open the Quick Menu, select the Worlds button, and select a world. The portal will open in front of you and stay open for 30 seconds. Take a walk to travel to the world.
There are also a number of world portals around the Hub. Take a ride, find something interesting and manually go through the portal to travel there.
After installing Unity, you’ll want to open the program and start a new project. Once that’s done, look at the top of the screen. Here you will see VRChat SDK which will open a drop down menu when clicked on.
Set a VRChat Descriptor
Before you can prepare and build your avatar, you need to give it a descriptor. This can be done by going to the Investigator section on the screen and clicking the Add Component button at the bottom. This will bring up a menu with all the different options you can use.
Screenshot by Gamepur
Just search for “avatar” in the search bar and you will see an option called VRC_AvatarDescriptor. Select this option and it will be available for your avatar.
Publish your avatar
Now it’s time to get your avatar ready for the world, so head back to the VR Chat SDK menu. Select Show Control Panel from the drop-down menu.
This will bring up a new window with several tabs that you can select. You’ll want to switch to the Constructor tab. At the bottom of this section, you’ll find the Build and Publish for Windows / Mac option.

It’s important to note that, for security reasons, Unity won’t let you export avatars until you’ve used the software for a certain amount of time. Just play around with the program and familiarize yourself with it and you’ll finally get a notification that you can export your projects.
All you need to do now is start the game and find your avatar to use.
Since the VR headset has its own buttons and motion controls, you’ll use a combination of buttons and tips to navigate the Quick menu. The quick menu contains many actions, such as changing the world and being reborn. In our example, we’re going to use the Oculus Rift as the controller.
How to Add Steam Friends in VRChat
Unfortunately, it is not possible to add Steam friends to VRChat. The only way to add a friend is to enter their VRChat username and search for them.
While VRChat is on Steam, they aren’t exactly interchangeable. The closest way to add Steam friends to VRChat is to add them to VRChat and ask them to add you to Steam.
As long as your friend Steam allows it, you can see what games they are currently playing by looking at their profile. The status can also display VRChat, and if you can see that they are playing you can also login and play with them.
Here are the two main ways to add a person using Steam:
Using a Friend Code
The easiest way is to ask for the code from a Steam friend. Using friend codes allows you to add them if your friend accepts your request.
Adding people to Steam using a friend’s code works like this:
Alternatively, you can send each other quick invitations. These will allow anyone to add immediately, but they expire after 30 days and only work once. This process works like this:
These methods are the closest way to add friends you meet on VRChat. Hopefully, in the future, there will be a way to instantly add users to Steam directly on VRChat.
Can You Add Me?
Meeting new players and making friends is part of VRChat’s appeal. Adding other users as friends is a relatively simple process, and you can do it with any controller. After making friends, you can invite each other anywhere to meet and chat.
How many friends do you have on VRChat? How do you think VRChat can implement direct Steam user adding? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
