How to identify your PS4 model
With the launch of the PS5 on the horizon, it’s time everyone wants to sell their PS4. Alternatively, when the PS4’s price drops, you may be considering buying one and are currently exploring the differences between the models. To help, let’s take a look at how to identify the different PS4 models.
It was quite simple in the PS3 era. You just had to worry about its capacity and whether it was a slim or a pro version. However, with PS4, it’s not that simple.
We hope to clear up a few things in this guide. First, how to determine which PS4 model you have. Second, what are the differences between the different models in terms of performance, storage space, and price.
The three PS4 models
There are three main PS4 models.
PS4 Original
First launched in 2013 with a 500GB hard drive, this is the original PS4. The console was the only model available for about two years, until the 1TB release in 2015. Eventually, the 500 GB device was discontinued after the introduction of the Slim and Pro versions.
PS4 Slim
The PS4 Slim came in two versions – 500 GB and 1 TB. This is the most popular PS4 unit as it has nearly doubled for both other versions. If you have a PS4, it will likely be Slim.
PS4 Pro
Introduced a few months after the PS4 Slim, this model only exists in one version, i.e the 1TB model. The PS4 Pro is the easiest version to identify as they only produced one type of it.
The 1TB version, which is closer to the PS5 specs overall due to 4K HDR and massive storage, also falls short of the original price.
When Did the PlayStation 3 Come Out?
The original version of the PS3 was released on November 17, 2006. The revised PS3 Slim replaced it on September 1, 2009. And the final version, the Super Slim model, became available on September 25, 2012.
Microsoft released the original Xbox One on November 22, 2013. The redesigned Xbox One S hit the market August 2, 2016. And the Xbox One X (our review), the most powerful console ever created, was released on November 7, 2017.
When Did the Xbox 360 Come Out?
The original Xbox 360 console launched on November 22, 2005. Its refurbished and slimmed down model, the Xbox 360 S, was released on June 18, 2010. And on June 10, 2013, Microsoft released the Xbox 360 E console, which looks quite similar to the original Xbox One console.
Microsoft’s debut console, Xbox, was released on November 15, 2001. While the controller has undergone a major overhaul, there’s never been a slim console upgrade for the Xbox.

The 1TB version, which is closer to the PS5 specs overall due to 4K HDR and massive storage, also falls short of the original price.
The advanced models currently sell at £ 315 apiece, with experts suggesting their successor may cost at least £ 100 more.
The current forecast is for a price of £ 449, and an announcement for this price is likely to come in July with the first pre-orders.
However, Sony has decided to introduce two versions of the same console, one based on the disc and the other fully digital.

The digital version will likely be cheaper than its slightly bulkier brother which includes a traditional disc tray.
The PS5 is likely to come bundled with some of the most anticipated games from yesterday’s announcement.
Sony has yet to disclose how much its games will cost, but logic dictates that they will exceed current prices.
PS4 games sell for an average of £ 50, so new CDs and online purchases can cost anywhere from £ 55 to £ 60.

Sony’s decision not to disclose prices may have been due to potential competition with Microsoft.
The rivals also unveiled the equally ambitious Xbox Series X console, which will be released around the same time as the PS5.
Developers are probably concerned that revealing the price as the first will lead to its undercut by the second.
However, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan recently admitted their console may not have the “lowest price” in a console battle.
The 1TB version, which is closer to the PS5 specs overall due to 4K HDR and massive storage, also falls short of the original price.
When Was The Ps4 Made What Year
PlayStation 4 is a home video game console developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Announced as the successor to PlayStation 3 in February 2013, it was released on November 15, 2013 in North America, November 29, 2013 in Europe, South America and Australia, and February 22, 2014 in Japan.
Wondering when the Xbox 360 came out or when Sony first launched the PS4? Here are the release dates for several popular consoles.
Wondering when each iteration of PlayStation and Xbox was launched? Sometimes it’s crazy to look back and see how much time has passed since consoles in the past .
Let’s go back in time and see when each console will be released. All years listed are for North America. Dates may differ in other regions.
Will Ps4 Controllers Work On Ps5
Sony has confirmed that it will not be possible to use the PS4 controller to play PS5 games, but it makes sense for the PlayStation 5 to support DualShock 4 when playing games that are backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4. The PS4 controller will function as expected when you play PS4 titles for PS5.
PS4 came out in the summer of 2013, six years after the PS3 was released in March 2007.
Gamers were afraid of the prices of both consoles, but the PS4 turned out to be the cheaper of the two at £ 350.
Now the price has dropped significantly, thanks to the standard 500GB model with three games selling for £ 254.99 on Amazon.
The PS4 Slim came in two versions – 500 GB and 1 TB. This is the most popular PS4 unit as it has nearly doubled for both other versions. If you have a PS4, it will likely be Slim.
Release Date History
Both the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2, which dominated their generations of console wars, entered the market at or before their competition. PlayStation 1 was released right after Sega Saturn and long before Nintendo 64, while PlayStation 2 was released before Xbox and Nintendo Gamecube.
This allowed Sony to gain a competitive advantage and gave developers time to develop their console game development skills, to the point where even when more powerful consoles came out, games released on the older system were just as technically good as not giving players any real incentive to switch to new consoles.
The same effect worked to some extent on the PlayStation 3 because although considered much more powerful than the Xbox 360, the yearly start the 360 received allowed developers to maximize the system’s potential faster, resulting in games that rivaled PS3 games upon release. It’s only when the system reaches its end of life that we’ll likely see PlayStation 3 come out with games that clearly outperform what 360 can do graphically.

august 20 – Official PS4 Release Date:
on August 20, 2013 at Gamescom, Sony announced the official PS4 release date, which is November 15, 2013 in the US and November 29, 2013 in Europe! Gamers from all over the world rejoiced! As you think, post your comments below.
August 5, 2013 Patch – Will PS4 be released in December 2013?
According to BT, yes! The site claims to have an internal dustpan on PlayStation 4 launch, claiming the system will land on:
december 13, 2013
BT says that following the announcement of the date on the Toys R Us website in the UK, the company’s customer service representative confirmed the date personally.
But slow down: BT has now contacted a leading toy retailer a second time only to find out that the release date isn’t actually official, just that it’s the company’s best guess.

June 20, 2013 Patch – Guess Best Release Date
E3 2013 has passed, and while we already know almost all of the PlayStation 4 tech specs, system design, costs, and most games, we still don’t know the most important part: the release date, do we?
A photo has appeared, courtesy of NeoGAF Cyborg user, showing signage from Media Markt store in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with actual release date printed: November 13, 2013 Can we see how the system arrived in the US around the same time as Europe ? Possibly! This date, or anything close to it, seems to make sense as it places the release date before the infamous “Black Friday” (November 29) which is the busiest day of the year for retail stores, followed by “Cyber Monday” (December 2), the busiest day of the year in online stores.
Even though the system is available for pre-order, the official announcement of the release date is still eluding us. What is Sony waiting for?
The PS4 pundits have had enough of the wait, so here’s our own idea of when it’s going to be released: late October / early November.
We already know that Watch Dogs will be available at the time of the system launch, and the game will officially be released on November 19, 2013 for the previous generation systems. Expect to see the PS4 a few weeks before that date, possibly in late October. We are all waiting for the launch of PS4, our gaming life will change forever!

April 30, 2013 Patch – More rumors point to October 2013
First, the Assassin’s Creed IV team, now Naughty Dog, is likely to reveal the October 2013 release date.
Unlike Jean Guesdon, who was straightforward in his approach, Naughty Dog takes a different approach, which may be a subtle reference to the PS4 release date. This tip is found in their latest game The Last Of Us, one of the last titles to be released for PlayStation 3.
In a recent trailer for the game, Joel and Ellie stumbled upon a sign that reads “Must Evacuate Notice: 10/17/2013”. While many may think this is just a date picked at random, could it actually be the Naughty Dog that secretly released a date on PS4 for their fans? After all, Naughty Dog is one of Sony’s top developers, so it’s likely that they have that knowledge.

PS4 Slim specs – what’s new with the slimline console?
This updated PS4 is a traditional, mid-gen “slim” redesign that works exactly like the current PS4 hardware – including adding HDR output to the whole family as part of Software Update 4.0.
That leaves the PS4 Pro to provide tangible graphics and feature enhancements for those who want them – for more on that, check out the Digital Foundry Experience after three hours on PS4 Pro on PlayStation Meeting.
But for those who don’t want a PS4 Pro – and have the choice between the original launch model and this new Slim – how do the two models compare? Digital Foundry’s first contact with the CUH-2000 PS4 Slim says it is “better than the existing PS4 in all respects” with better energy efficiency and noise reduction, and while it’s available at a more affordable price, it has a build quality on par with existing models.
How powerful will Microsoft’s next system be, backward compatibility, and more.
How does Slim PS4 look different to run PS4 hardware:
- Thinner housing with softened corners and a completely matte finish
- Approximately 40 percent smaller at 26.5cm x 26.5cm x 3.8cm compared to 27.5cm x 30cm x 5.3cm on the PS4.
- Physical power and eject buttons located just below the disk drive
- Light bar removed in favor of the light on the new power button
- Two USB 3.0 ports located apart from each other on the front of the device
- The base of the console has many “legs” made of protruding plastic in the shape of the iconic PlayStation symbols
- The PlayStation square, triangle, circle and cross symbols are stamped on the side of the console, and the circle also doubles as a fastener to the stand
Slim PS4 features and hardware compared to the original PS4:
- Removing the Optical Out port on the back of the console
- Updated DualShock 4 controller that comes in the box (more info below)
- Two hard drive options – standard 500 GB or increased capacity 1 TB
- Possibility to replace hard drives with a dedicated panel on the back
- New supplier of hard drives – Toshiba MQ01ABD050 2.5 inch in our hands-on applications – but same speeds 5400 rpm
- Reduction of fan noise, heat and energy consumption (about 41% less dashboard power in early tests)
- Wi-Fi enhancements – 5 GB IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac support (also available on Pro model)

When Did the PlayStation 4 Come Out?
The PS4 shipped on November 15, 2013. The PS4 Come Out Patch replaced it on September 15, 2016. All the more remarkable PS4 Pro (our survey) from Sony was released on November 10, 2016.
Take a look at the best PS4 regulators you can buy if you’d rather redesign yours.
When Did the PlayStation 3 Come Out?
PlayStation 3 is the best console of all time. The first model came out on November 17, 2006, and was quickly replaced by the re-thought of the PS3 Slim in 2009. This last patch to the Super Slim series has appeared only recently, on September 25, 2012!
This is the PlayStation 4 release date. The original PS4 console was released in North America on November 15, 2013, with its European debut three days later, on November 29, and then making its way to other areas of South America, Australia and Japan 3 months after its first release.
To make its console more accessible worldwide, Sony announced it would be releasing it in these four regions first before finally releasing it everywhere else, but that didn’t happen until February 22, 2014, when the Playstation 4 finally made its appearance here too those looking forward to having their own can now see how close we are!
As the year went out, PS4 came out – Sony’s PlayStation 4 control center released in 2013 and is now six years old. The coming PlayStation era is here!
Sony’s latest console is heavier than its predecessor model and weighs 6.1 pounds, but also includes upgraded hardware for more efficient and powerful graphics. The PS4 has 8 gigabytes of combined memory and 256 megabytes of RAM, which will help ensure faster processing in the long run – even if they’re only partially used at this point.
Sony focuses on “social” viewpoints as an essential part of the control center. While the PS4 has been working on social utility, the rules are discretionary and can be handicapped.
Building a community
Clients have the option of becoming addicted or joining local meetings, depending on the interest of a loved one. The networks include a discussion board, achievements and game fasteners shared by different people, as well as the ability to join group visits and upload enjoyable games. Sony stated that “networks are a decent method of connecting with similar players,” especially when “you have to deal with a major multiplayer attack, but you need more available companions.”
Sony has officially announced that the PlayStation Network local layout will be abolished at the beginning of April 2021. However, that won’t stop customers from talking to their companions in private information or in group chats on PlayStation Network.
Multimedia sharing
The DualShock 4 control includes a Share button that allows the player to view the last hour of recorded interaction in progress to select a screenshot or video cut to share. Media is sent flawlessly from the control center to other PSN clients or social system administration locations such as Dailymotion, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, or more than likely customers can duplicate media on a USB drive and transfer to their social organization or website priority.
Players can also use a free video changer app called ShareFactory to cut and collect their first video cuts, add custom music or voice discourse with green screen effects. Subsequent updates added picture-in-picture format options, the ability to make photo montages and animated GIFs.
