The 5 GHz option provides the perfect connection as it is less loaded and offers higher speeds. The flip side is that this band has a hard time penetrating solid objects, so it has a narrow coverage. Its maximum theoretical speed is 300 Mb / s.

How to use Xbox Play Anywhere to play games on Windows PC or Xbox One

Microsoft believes Xbox could be the future of gaming. Consequently, it has started to focus more on the Xbox One game console, in particular via Xbox Play Anywhere. The Xbox Play Anywhere service, operated by Microsoft Studios, allows users to buy and play digital games on Windows 11/10 or Xbox One at no extra cost. What makes the service so special? Players can choose where they last stopped on their Xbox One or PC and still have their game, add-ons, and achievements saved in one place.

What changes create the possibility of such development? Changes made to Windows 10’s Anniversary Update made this game sharing feature possible. So it can of course be said that the Xbox Play Anywhere service is only supported on Windows 10 PCs and Xbox One consoles with the Anniversary Update.

The appearance of the Xbox Play Anywhere titles suggests that the games perform like other games. Once installed, the Xbox Play Anywhere title can be played on a Windows 10 PC or an Xbox One console. Note that you can only sign in to a game on one Xbox One console or one Windows 10 PC at any time. You can’t sign in to the same game on both platforms at the same time.

You can even play the game on one platform and continue your later sessions on the other. All game progress and achievements will be automatically saved to Xbox Live.

Once done, you just need to log into your Xbox Live / Microsoft account and the Xbox Play Anywhere games should be available for download.

If you purchased Xbox Play Anywhere on Windows 10 and want to download the game on Xbox one, just sign in to your Xbox One console, go to “My games and applications.

Then select “Ready to Install.

Xbox Inside the Box

You can access many impressive gaming features when you turn on your computer. Previously, the standalone Xbox app for PC from Microsoft is now pre-installed with Windows 11. With the Xbox app, all Windows 11 owners can sync their Xbox game credentials to their computer, create groups and chat with friends, listen to music, customize avatars, and follow achievements. With Game Bar, you can capture funny screenshots and epic videos as well as monitor PC system performance. Beyond these extra features, the Xbox app offers tantalizing reasons to make your PC your premier gaming platform.

With the Xbox app, you can browse through a large library of games to make a purchase. The different categories make it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for (but unfortunately there are no VR goggle games). You can now download games to any folder, making it much easier to modify your favorite titles. The game selection in the Xbox app may not be as extensive as Steam, still the best PC gaming market, but you can buy games for your PC as well as your Xbox. In fact, Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative allows you to purchase one game in both ecosystems. So, if you buy Cuphead or Forza Horizon 5, you can play PC and console titles with cross-platform achievements and cloud saves at no extra charge. You don’t even have to pay for Xbox Live multiplayer on PC.

Game Pass Is a Game-Changer

With the Xbox App, all Windows 11 users have easy access to by far the most important new gaming platform from Microsoft: Xbox Game Pass. Other subscription services have tried to become “Netflix for video games,” but Xbox Game Pass is the real deal. With an Xbox Game Pass subscription from $ 10 / month, you can play a rotating library of great PC games. For $ 15 a month, you can also use Game Pass on consoles. The library not only includes all of Microsoft’s major games, from Gears 5 to the upcoming Halo Infinite, but also loads of exciting newest third-party games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and The Forgotten City. The games don’t stay on the site forever, though, so keep playing them while you have them.

Xbox Game Pass is an example of Microsoft’s commitment to making your games available, wherever you are. To increase our audience for games, we need to lower barriers to entry. Can’t afford the premium Xbox Series X? Go for the cheaper Xbox Series S. Microsoft doesn’t care if you get on board. Windows 11 is simply the newest, most convenient way to enter the ecosystem.

You don’t even need a powerful gaming PC to enjoy Game Pass benefits. Xbox Game Pass includes cloud streaming, so if your inexpensive laptop (or last-gen Android phone or Xbox console) has a strong enough internet connection, you can use it to play the most graphically demanding games on the market. In addition to Game Pass, you can also use the Xbox app to stream games from console to PC, as long as everything is on the same network.

Just remember that this ecosystem is only as strong as its games. Microsoft has made recent high-profile acquisitions (Bethesda in particular), but rival companies Nintendo and Sony likely still have more powerful games like The Legend of Zelda and God of War exclusively on their platforms. If you can’t get your hands on the red-hot PlayStation 5, you can now enjoy a few older PlayStation 4s on PC, but not through the Xbox app.

The application will scan the network for available consoles. Select the one you want to connect to. If you have multiple consoles, it might be a good idea to name them differently, as all Xbox One consoles have the default name My Xbox.

Quick access to play

Browse Game Pass library, download your next favorite game and launch it directly from the app. Organize your games the way you want and launch them when you’re ready to play. Even play console games with your cloud friends.

Xbox Play Anywhere Is Digital Only

The cross-purchase benefits of Xbox Play Anywhere titles only apply to digital versions of the games. For example, purchasing the digital version of ReCore on Xbox One will unlock the version of Windows 10 for free, but purchasing the physical disc version of ReCore on the Xbox One will not.

When buying games labeled Xbox Play Anywhere, there are two things you should check: your computer’s operating system and hardware profile.

Xbox Play Anywhere will only run on Windows 10 PCs. In addition to the added security benefits of updating your device, installing Windows 10 will give you a better gaming experience.

The second thing to consider is hardware compatibility with the game. Many games have specific memory and processor requirements. Fortunately, the official game listings in the Windows Store app in Windows 10 automatically test your device for compatibility. This test can be found in the feature list section and is visualized with green ticks and red crosses to indicate if the game will run properly.

If all of the entries in the System Requirements section have green ticks next to them, then you’re good to go. If you see a few red crosses or get the message “Your device must meet all the minimum requirements to open this product,” you may need to buy a more powerful computer.

Keep in mind that all games are different, and while some may not run on your current computer, others may.

In Windows 10, type “Updates” in the taskbar search box. Select Check for Updates in the results. Alternatively, right-click the Start button and select Settings from the Advanced User menu .

Xbox Play Anywhere

Microsoft allows owners of PC and Xbox computers (not only Xbox One) to play selected games on both platforms without connecting them to the network. To do this, you need to have Windows 10 Anniversary Edition installed on your computer. In addition, you will need an active Xbox Live account.

Here’s how to play Xbox Play Anywhere:

  1. Buy the game (must be a digital title) from the Windows Store or the Xbox Store.
  2. Start the computer.
  3. Connect the controller as described earlier.
  4. Launch the Xbox app.
  5. Find your recently purchased game in the app.
  6. Start the game.

Unfortunately, the list of games is quite limited, so you’ll only be able to play approved titles.

Read Raw Data

Microsoft has already made it possible to connect your Xbox One console and controller to your PC and enjoy your favorite games on your PC. Progress is synchronized and the application runs very smoothly. But what if you have sold or donated your Xbox One console and have multiple game DVDs? You can still play your favorite childhood games on the computer. Here’s how to get them running on your computer:

Read raw data

  1. Start the computer.
  2. After booting, insert the game disc into your DVD drive.
  3. Double-click the This PC shortcut on the desktop.
  4. Right-click the drive that contains the game disc.
  5. Select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  6. Then click the Hardware tab.
  7. Scroll through the list and click on a drive.
  8. Click the Properties button.
  9. When the Disk Properties window opens, click the Details tab.
  10. Select Opportunities from the drop-down menu.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click OK again.
  14. Go to this computer and double-click the game.

This method allows the computer to read the raw data found on the disk. It will bypass the security features on the game disc without damaging it or making it unusable on the console.

Getting the best out of wireless

Moving the Router: Linksys WRT3200 ACM Router Review

Bill Roberson / digital trends

The original Xbox One console has a dual-band 802.11n component and can connect to either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band.

The 2.4 GHz band is great for penetrating walls and thick objects, but is also the default wireless connection for many devices in the home. Not only is this bandwidth congested, it is typically unable to reach the theoretical maximum speed of 144 Mbps.

The 5 GHz option provides the perfect connection as it is less loaded and offers higher speeds. The flip side is that this band has a hard time penetrating solid objects, so it has a narrow coverage. Its maximum theoretical speed is 300 Mb / s.

Meanwhile, the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles have a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) component. The theoretical maximum speed is 867Mbps on the 5GHz band and 400Mbps on the 2.4GHz band – a big improvement over the original Xbox One console.

In all cases, the local environment has a big influence on the connection speed between your Xbox One console and your router, in addition to the wireless connection between your router and your Windows 10 device. That said, the physical locations of both your Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs in relation to to the router are extremely important, especially if you are using the 5 GHz band.

Even then, Wi-Fi is usually not the best choice. Due to interference and inconsistency, Wi-Fi pairing will almost always produce uneven results, even with the fastest wireless connections. If you need to use Wi-Fi, we recommend that you connect your Xbox One console to at least a local network. Your target device – the device you are streaming to – may be using Wi-Fi.

However, mesh-based network systems can help. They replace your standard router to provide whole-home wireless connectivity. While a single router transmits both bands from one point – which degrades as the signal continues to move – mesh-based systems typically consist of a set of three or more units that can be deployed throughout your home. Together, they form a ‘network’ for avoiding obstacles and fixed objects that tend to degrade connectivity.

Examples of mesh-based systems are Eero, Luma, and Google Wi-Fi.

Wired connections yield the best results

Craig Lloyd / Digital Trends

For the best possible performance, your Xbox One console – and possibly your Windows 10 PC – should connect to your local network using Ethernet cables. We know this isn’t a perfect mix, especially if you want to stream your Xbox One games in the bedroom, but the console is in the living room. However, you’ll get maximum bandwidth in return for cables hanging from devices and running along baseboards.

PowerLine adapters are an excellent alternative to standard Ethernet cables. These helpful tools use information from your home electrical system before transferring it from your console to your computer.

You can get pairs of PowerLine adapters that come with loop-through sockets. These are useful because you can strengthen the system without taking up the entire wall socket. Check out our handy guide for more information on pass-through sockets.

Microsoft’s support site is also full of guidance. Products like these can enhance the functionality of your streaming device, no matter how difficult it is to locate. If these tips don’t help with the combination, you can check out our other suggestions here .
