Why has your account been blocked and can you appeal? Learn all the essential details about CS: GO bans and follow this guide to learn how to get unlocked in CS: GO.

To play CS: GO, every player must obey the rules, especially those regarding cheating. When users are violating the policy, unbanning can be difficult.

Here are the types of CS: GO account bans:

  • CS: GO VAC ban
  • CS: GO Overwatch Lock
  • CS: GO’s competitive cooldown ban

Can You Resolve a CS:GO VAC Ban?

You will receive a VAC ban when you connect to a secure server using a device with traceable codes installed. If you receive a VAC ban, you cannot reuse that account on a secure server. The ban is permanent and cannot be appealed against – erroneous VAC bans are removed automatically.

While the Overwatch ban is non-negotiable, it usually isn’t permanent. You will receive an Overwatch ban when other players report you and it is determined that you committed an offense. The unanimous decision is made by investigators selected from the CS: GO community.

We’ve summarized the types of Overwatch bans below:

A kind of Overwatch ban Cause Duration of the ban Implications
Smaller regret in the game 30 days You may not play on VAC secured servers, trade or advertise your CS: GO products during the lockout period
Main Cheating Constant You need to create a new Steam account to play on VAC secured servers or sell your CS: GO item

While the Overwatch ban is non-negotiable, it usually isn’t permanent. You will receive an Overwatch ban when other players report you and it is determined that you committed an offense. The unanimous decision is made by investigators selected from the CS: GO community.

Valve Anti-Cheat’s “permanent” bans now have one major exception

Now, apparently, there is one big exception to this rule, at least when it comes to esports. Yesterday’s Counter-Strike: GO blog post mentioned that some VAC-banned players will now be able to participate in the events accompanying the next season of Regional Major Rankings (RMR.

The CS: GO team notes in the post that its event guidelines were initially written around the game’s 2012 release, when “all CS: GO VAC bans were relatively recent.” Now, however, the team has decided to update these guidelines to reflect the fact that “VAC bans may now be more than eight years old.” As a result, VAC bans that are older than five years, as well as VAC bans prior to the player’s first participation in a Valve sponsored event, will no longer be considered when evaluating qualifications for an RMR event.

This is quite a big change for a system that defines the consequences to be “permanent” and “non-negotiable”. And those other VAC consequences – including the loss of access to all VAC-protected multiplayer servers, achievements, tradable cosmetics, and more – will remain in place. “The only change is how they affect your eligibility to play at Valve-sponsored events,” reads the blog post. [Update: This section originally suggested that VAC-banned players have lost all access to their game library. Ars regrets the mistake.]

Cheater bygones?

Over the years, Valve’s zero-tolerance approach to enforcing VAC has suggested just how seriously it takes evidence of cheating in hundreds of games using the system. One verified cheating offense was enough to ruin your gaming credibility on Steam forever, with no exceptions even considered by Valve’s enforcement team.

When it comes to CS: GO esports, Valve apparently now believes that adequately old evidence of cheating should be taken as a kind of youthful indiscretion that shouldn’t be used against current players. This is a surprisingly severe and specific offense for a policy that was previously inviolable.

Some CS: GO observers suspect that the rule change may affect players like Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen, who received a VAC ban in 2015 when he was 14 years old. Olkkonen claimed that the banned account in question was lent to his friend at the time of the alleged fraud. He sued Valve in Finland in 2019 for the impact of the ban on his professional esports career, including his role in preventing him from signing a pro team OG.

Last November, a Finnish court ruled in favor of Valve on the case. And in February, Olkkonen seemingly gave up CS: GO altogether and signed with Team Liquid as a professional Valorant player (although the name “CSGO” still appears in his Twitter grip). “Thank you to everyone who has supported me during my last years at CS, let’s start a new path at [Valorant],” he wrote at the time.

However, yesterday, Olkkonen tweeted a “thank you” for his status “Officially. Unbanned ”in CS: GO. Olkkonen’s father Petri added via Twitter that Valve’s legal counsel had confirmed to him that “due to the time that has elapsed since the offense occurred, it will no longer affect [Elias] eligibility to invite Valve sponsored esports event.”

In 2016, Ars associate Rich Stanton detailed the crowdsourcing process used by the CS: GO community to reliably identify fraudsters. This is a process by which many seasoned investigators agree to documented evidence of fraud, Stanton writes. It is also a process where investigators “assume that a suspect is innocent” and where “never being wrong is more important than always being right,” wrote Stanton.

“The surety required by Overwatch creates a small slice of cases where you believe a player is hacking but can’t say it for sure – and if you have any doubts, you need to let them slip by,” continued Stanton.

It is unclear if this new CS: GO policy suggests that Valve may further loosen its VAC consequences system in the future (Valve representative has not yet responded to a request for comment from Ars TechnicaUpdate: a Valve representative told Ars Technica via email: “We just make the changes noted – nothing else is currently underway. “) In any case, this is the first visible crack in a system that previously served as an impenetrable shield against fraudsters.

You will receive one of these bans if you are reported for griefing, offensive voice chat, or offensive text chat and you are found guilty. Your account will be blocked for a long time (you are not sure about the exact duration).

VAC banned players can now compete in Valve sponsored events

Valve released today, April 15, a new Regional Major Rankings that allows VAC-banned players to return to Valve-sponsored events five years after they were banned. The Valve Anti-Cheat ban will still apply to the accounts of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players, but players themselves can compete. The ban will be valid until the end of five years, or if a player is banned after participating in a Valve sponsored event for the first time, they will be unlocked.

According to Valve, the bans were previously indefinite due to how young the game was back then. Now, however, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is over eight years old.

“These guidelines were not updated as the game was new and all CS: GO VAC bans were relatively new. But VAC bans could be over 8 years old now. So we decided to update them, ”reads the release.

Other tournament-specific bans or bans for other offenses such as match fixing or cheating on the LAN remain unchanged. Valve delivered this verdict just weeks before the main event of this season’s first RMR event, Flashpoint 3. The ruling also comes as Counter-Strike will have its first major LAN from 2019 in Stockholm, Germany this fall.

The VAC banned players impacted by this

Many of the players who would be affected by this ban have already switched to other games. Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen, Patryk “Patitek” Fabrowski and Saif “Sayf” Jibraeel are no longer able to attend Valve sponsored events. However, they are now competing in VALORANT. Their previously unspecified bans are a big part of why these players made the switch. The new rule also applies a timer to the 2018 ban on Brazilian player Vinicius “v $ m” Moreira.

It also gives a buffer to newer players who may have shared accounts of cheaters such as Jamppi in their youth. Valve is known to be notoriously slow when it comes down to rulings or changes to its format and rules. This new ruling, in typical Valve fashion, was unexpectedly and without warning dismissed in less than 200 words.

you will receive a competition cooldown of varying lengths depending on the number of offenses committed. Competition cooldowns are granted when:

Advice # 2 – Control the iron

Never, under any circumstances, log into your email or Steam account from a computer that you are not sure is safe. This applies to computers in computer clubs and even in friends’ houses. Lots of people can’t even control their own computers, so it’s impossible to know what’s installed on someone else’s device.

Your computer may contain spyware that logs logins and passwords, or it may contain codes for which you will get VAC. I suppose a large number of people reading this article have friends or acquaintances who got banned from csgo vac and you only found out about it after their cs ban cs went to cheat use. Nobody can guarantee that the friend on whose computer you used your account has not committed any harmful actions against you.

Advice # 3 – Never press, if you are not sure

Always be aware of the use of relevant websites. Keep a close eye on which links these people send you on Steam, FB, VK, Skype and other services. Never confirm any requests from unstable people. Most people probably know about the special category of players who spoil the games of the occasional teams for fun. They run in front of you, stay away from the keyboard, do whatever they can to lose the game and drive their opponents crazy.

Some of them even record it and create channels with this content. But this guide is not about that. There are people whose actions do much more damage. In fact, they do the same thing as people who spoil games for fun and ban the steam cleaner, but their methods are far from the notions of “good” and “bad».

They create and distribute malicious programs designed to imitate a scam and, as a result, holiday bans. Your computer may get this over some links or by connecting to an unknown TeamSpeak proxy. This can even happen through the game client, during the process of connecting to the server. The most common reason is that I am offered to play one VS one.

To play CS: GO, every player must obey the rules, especially those regarding cheating. When users violate the rules, it can be difficult to unlock .

There are several reasons why you may not be able to join the competitive round:

You can get this ban by doing any of the following:

  • Too much damage for party members. (3 warnings)
  • Harming a teammate at the start of the round (immediate ban)
  • Quitting the match after pressing the ACCEPT button.
  • Abuse of the kick system.

Please note that the prohibition of matchmaking will be imposed regardless of whether the violation was intentional or not.
