Yes, ‘Minecraft’ is cross-platform — here’s how to play with your friends on any system
Over the past few years, “Minecraft” has developed a great multiplayer mode. Best of all, this multiplayer has cross-platform (or cross-platform) functionality, meaning it doesn’t matter what system you play Minecraft on – you can play with your friends on any system.
Just remember that there are two different versions of “Minecraft” and they all play slightly different cross-platform. The most important thing to remember is that you can play Minecraft with anyone who has the same version as you.
If you want to play with your friends, here’s what you need to know about how Minecraft handles cross-platform games.
So you’re in the Minecraft market but don’t know which version is right for you? We can help.
- This is the most popular version of Minecraft, meaning Mojang is always up to date with bug fixes and updates.
- It is as portable as only Minecraft. Wherever your phone or tablet is, Minecraft is there.
- Its worlds are endless.
- Supports add-ons.
- It supports mods, but installing them can be difficult if you don’t know what you are doing (especially on iOS).
- Online multiplayer options are available.
- It’s cheap ($ 6.99, often on sale)!
- Its touch controls are clunky compared to other options.
- Performance varies by device, especially if you are using an Android device.

Laptops with dedicated graphics
Most laptops have integrated graphics, so you’ll have to look for models that include discrete Nvidia GeForce or AMD Radeon graphics. Unfortunately, they usually cost around £ 600 to £ 1,800, which is quite a lot for a Minecraft machine. However, dedicated graphics chips sometimes appear in cheaper laptops with slower processors.
When @jessevershed asked on Twitter a few months ago, I suggested the Asus X552CL-SX037H, which is still available at £ 390.99 with free shipping, discounted from £ 459.99. It has a 15.6-inch screen, a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i3-3217U processor, 6 GB of memory, a 500 GB hard drive, DVD and, most importantly, Nvidia GeForce GT710M graphics. I don’t see anything else for a similar price.
The next step is the Asus X550CC-XO071H, which has 1.8GHz Core i5-3337U 8GB memory, 1TB hard drive, DVD graphics, and an Nvidia GeForce GT720M for £ 520.53 plus £ 4.99 for UK shipping.
The best budget Minecraft laptop I can find at the moment is another Asus. The 15.6-inch X550CA has a 1.8GHz Intel Core i3-3217U processor, 6GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, DVD and integrated HD 4000 graphics for £ 314.98 on Amazon.co.uk, £ 319.97 for Laptops Direct or £ 329.97 for Save On Laptops.
Whichever laptop you buy, be sure to add an external USB mouse.
Minecraft Dungeons is the latest entry in the growing Mojang roster, and many are wondering if it will join Minecraft and Minecraft Earth on mobile. Here is your answer.
Can you play Minecraft Dungeons on mobile?
source: Zachary Boddy | Windows headquarters
Best answer: On the surface, Minecraft Dungeons may seem like the perfect solution for mobile devices. Nevertheless, mobile phones are not able to run Minecraft Dungeons. Microsoft has a solution, however, and has brought Minecraft Dungeons to phones with the power of Xbox Cloud Gaming. Stream Minecraft Dungeons to your phone and even enjoy surprisingly perfect touch controls!
Too much for phones – or is it?
Minecraft Dungeons has proven to be the perfect sibling for Minecraft, providing great casual gameplay that shines brightest when you enjoy it with your friends. One of the main differences between Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, however, is its availability on mobile devices. While the modest graphics and flexible Minecraft engine can easily adapt even to low-powered mobile hardware, the updated Minecraft Dungeons graphics and the sheer amount of potential mobs on the screen don’t translate well to our pocket PCs.
It’s a shame too, as Minecraft Dungeons gameplay would be perfect for mobile when perfect latency and complicated motion controls aren’t necessary. Combine Minecraft Dungeons with cross-play and mobile support and it can be an amazing game to play all day long when you’re out and about. It shouldn’t be because Minecraft Dungeons are too much for phones. At least it was.
The power of the cloud
Microsoft brings the power of Xbox to mobile with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Project xCloud). With Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can stream a huge collection of Xbox games directly to their Android device while enjoying new Xbox Game Pass games all the time. While this works great with some of the best Xbox cloud gaming accessories, it can be an awkward setup when you need to carry your Xbox controller and some kind of grip.
Fortunately, Microsoft is also working to fix this problem. Many Xbox Cloud Gaming games have full touch controls, which means they can only be played on your phone! These tactile controls are customizable for each game and allow players to customize them to their own needs and preferences as well. Minecraft Dungeons is the first game to add touch controls via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and it’s innovative. We got to know Minecraft Dungeons and Xbox Cloud Gaming and found that “the result was surprising, fun and shows a future where you can not only take your entire console with you on the go, but also lower the controller in the back.”
Because of this combination, Minecraft Dungeons have dominated our list of the best Xbox Cloud Gaming games for months and show no sign of giving up. If you have an Android phone or tablet (iOS and Windows support will soon be available over the internet), you can play Minecraft Dungeons anywhere you have a decent internet connection, only via Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Minecraft Dungeons also supports cross-platform play, so you can play with any of your friends, even while you’re on the go. Minecraft Dungeons doesn’t support cross-platform cross-save yet, but it will sync all your information if you normally play Minecraft Dungeons on Xbox. Lastly, you can even access all Minecraft Dungeons and DLC extensions via Xbox Cloud Gaming if you purchase them via Xbox.
While this method requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription (which remains one of the best gaming values), it completely brings Minecraft Dungeons to your phone, even without a controller.

In this article, we’ll go over and get to the bottom of the question “Will Minecraft be cross-platform in 2021?” for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Mobile etc. (crossplay). Will Minecraft be available as cross-platform?
1. What does cross-platform mean for Minecraft?
Minecraft’s cross-platform functionality means you can play with your friends on any device. You don’t need to buy an account for every platform, so as long as your friend has the same version of Minecraft, you can join!
2. What does cross-progression mean?
Cross progression is the ability to play games on one device and continue your game session on another. For example, if you play on your mobile and switch to the console, you’ll be able to continue where you left off.
3. Is Minecraft cross-progression?
Yes, Minecraft is a cross progression. This means you can play on one device and then start the game from where you left off on another, as long as it’s a different type of console or mobile device.
4. What is the difference between cross-platform and multi-platform?
Cross-platform means you have to buy the same game twice. This is not an option for people who do not have enough money or prefer a different platform to another. Cross-platform only requires one Minecraft kit, and then it will work on all platforms.
